Making $ Through Atrocious History: A Review of Empire of the Summer Moon

Within a couple of weeks, I'll be publishing the next episode exclusive for you sweet people who support my work. The episode will be much more comprehensive than the article you can access here. But in the meantime, I figure I'd offer you this written version of my thoughts on one of the books that I'll be discussing in the upcoming mini-episode.

I don't know enough about Quanah and his mother to be able to tell. I need to read more Comanche history in order to know if he messed up their story as well or if he was more accurate about that part

Yikes, I’ve got egg on my face for recommending this to several people. Cynthia Ann Parker and Quanah were who I enjoyed most in the book. Did you recognize similar inaccuracies in how Gwynne told their stories? Narratively speaking it was certainly poisoned by the points raised in your article.

I haven't read all of Pekka's work, but i remember reading one of his books and thinking it was well researched

Thank you for sharing! I considered reading Empire but now I won't waste my time. I am, however, currently reading Indigenous Continent by Pekka Hamalainen, and would love your thoughts in the upcoming Patreon episode on reviewing books on Native Americans. What do you think?
