I honestly had no idea the royals were such a drain. Like the examples brought up in this video, I too believed Grey completely and did not do further investigation. Thank you for this video. Thank you.

I'd really REALLY like a source of a study or something that apparently Tourists really care whether or not people live in the Castles they visit. Here in Germany, people fucking LOVE visiting all kinds of Castles. They rub their faces in all the castles they can find, and no one lives in those except for some tour guides in little huts. I've seen the crown jewellry in England while standing on some treadmill, and I'm sure that would not change whether or not you guys have a queen or not. It is mostly history anyway, and not a lot of people personally meet the Queen in her chambers. I'm sure the money saved by no longer supporting the Royal Family could easily be invested in taking in refugees. Just let them live in those castles. I'm sure that Idea will bring in way more tourism.

Traditionally the options are understood to be an empowered presidency (as in America), a symbolic presidency (as in Ireland or Germany, sometimes indirectly elected) or a middle ground (as in France). The idea that a head of state is actually necessary is basically nonsense though, so it’d be fully reasonable to just not care who it is, or have it be the cabinet collectively, or to make it rotate around the cabinet (this is what they do in Switzerland), or to have several Presidents (as Bosnia does), or make it the PM or the Speaker. Or you could just make the Monarchy an elected, term limited position, there’s literally nothing that stops that from working either.

As a Canadian I'd love to see the monarchy go out the window. I do wonder about what the best ways to create a new head of state would be, should it be the Prime Minister? Or should there be a separate office created? There have been discussions here about removing the monarchy as our head of state but it'll never go anywhere because that would require changing the constitution which the amendment formula makes basically impossible.

I love the photo that you use to represent 'oil barons'. Gave me a good chuckle. That is all.

Not a correction really just a point of note. There was a response video made to this years ago and CGP Grey actually replied to it in the comments conceding many of the points the response made. Unfortunately the original response was taken down (probably because he got a lot of hate for correcting Grey) so I can't link it. It's disappointing Grey hasn't commented on his own video or removed it though. Great video overall for a "short" video.

Wouldn't removing the monarchy be an argument for increased tourism revenue considering in places like france you can tour places like the palace of versailles while in the UK you cant since the people living their keep it to themselves?

The thought of the royal family starting a gofundme was particularly amusing.
