They're usually harmless, but should they feel threatened, they'll defend their home with a shower of distracting spores--if the intruder is lucky, that is. The spores can be deadly, too, should the need arise, or perhaps transform an incautious heavy-footed passer-by into another member of their mushroom-y ranks!
