Weapon (whip), rare (requires attunement)
This braided whip looks like frayed yarn. A cat's skull remains knotted and fixed to the tattered end of the whip. A creature that's hit by the whip is cursed by it until the end of your next turn or until you hit a different creature with it. While cursed, a creature is haunted by eight ethereal cats and suffers from the following effects:
The creature's speed is reduced by 5 feet.
The creature has disadvantage on any ability check or saving throw it makes to avoid being knocked prone.
When you hit the creature with an attack using the whip, it takes an extra 1d8 necrotic damage, as the ghostly cats claw and gnash at the creature. If you roll an 8 on the necrotic damage die, the creature must also succeed on a DC 15 Dexterity saving throw or be knocked prone.
Undead creatures are immune to the curse's effects.
There was a girl whose cat was slain,
By hateful hands that brought her pain.
The cat lived on, nine lives as ghosts,
Whose claws it honed 'gainst foes, as posts.
