Untdirheim — New Setting and Subclass!

What’s this I hear about you snooping around the sewers for some lost city? Untdirheim, was it? My dear child, allow me to say it plainly: Untdirheim is a fairytale of street rats and cutpurses. I assure you that no such city exists, and even if it did, it certainly wouldn’t be right under the noses of a thousand people! Your misadventure has cost me a great deal of respect—not to mention a great deal of gold by way of apology to the college. If it weren’t for your mother’s pleading, I would have disavowed you as my child. It should go without saying (though I daren’t risk it, given your ill-acquaintance with common sense) that you write her a letter expressing your profound thanks; do not write to me.

Scrying a teleportation circle in the dean’s lavatory—what were you thinking (if at all)? You wouldn’t have been content embarrassing me at a dockside pub? You just had to choose the most damaging path possible? To risk your education—not to mention my career—over some silly story of antiquity…Untdirheim, bah! An entire city of ashen foundations under our feet: hilarious! And a primordial cavern underneath that: doubly so! I would have hoped that by now you’d have traded in your pulp novels for the college’s curricula, but alas, I see now that I expected too much.

Your mother may have convinced me to give you one last chance, but rest assured, it is your last chance. Should you embarrass me like this again, consider yourself removed from the family’s history. No more stipend, no more inheritance, no more college—done! Do not disappoint me.

And when you come home for the holiday, under no circumstances are you to breathe the word “Untdirheim” in my presence. It does not exist. Focus on your school work.

The words “Lovingly,” “Sincerely,” and “Curtly” are all similarly written and struck out with thin, sharp lines. The signature below it, however, is smudged beyond recognition, as if stained by water—tears?

P.S. This is your mother! If you think there’s a secret city somewhere, I believe you. Go find it—prove everyone wrong! But don’t neglect your studying. And don’t go into the dean’s lavatory again. Love you!

Untdirheim is a spelunking setting that you can place beneath ancient ruins or thriving metropolises, based in long-forgotten sewer systems and the caves below. Goblins that have existed there for centuries have begun to unravel at the seams, and while typical goblin turmoil may not concern many, this time it should. For what has caused this schism is nothing short of otherworldly, and may have far-reaching repercussions if left unchecked.

This setting includes a new Paladin Oath: the Oath of the Dream Warden. When evil is given free reign over your time at rest, how can you ever hope to sleep at peace? These paladins rely on clever subterfuge and shared dreamscapes to comfort allies, disillusion foes, and coordinate within their party.
