Scully is an incredibly interesting character, and she felt like the perfect protagonist for the kind of story I had cooked up for this video. X-Files is a show that deals with many fantastical themes while having characters that feel grounded and real, so I was excited to tackle this story! This video was also based on an idea provided by channel friend, JimJimson!
For as many videos that I've done, I haven't really done a lot with an interrogation theme (Acolyte I guess comes to mind), so I wanted to lean heavily into Scully's inquisitive and skeptical nature. I chose to have the POV as a Skinwalker for a variety of reasons. The first is that a skinwalker, by it's nature, makes for a compelling villain. According to the lore, skinwalkers can be whatever they want to be by inhabiting the skin of its prey. So, I thought the idea of a serial killer who's been committing crimes for decades by changing his form was an interesting idea!
I used a game called "Unsolved Case Files" as the basis for the cases I went over, and I had a lot of really interesting photographs to use in this process. Fun fact: one of the pictures was a man who had been set up to look like he hung himself, but I was to afraid to use it for the video because I was worried about it getting flagged for inappropriate content! Scully does bring up that scenario in the video, but the picture itself is offscreen so the viewer can't actually see it! While it would have been great for setting the tone of what the killer was capable of, I didn't think it was worth the consequences.
In this Van Helsing video, I introduced the League Of Extraordinary Gentlemen through the eyes of The Vampire. I really love how useful The Vampire is for bridging the gap between The Helsing series and The Vampire saga, and having her as the main character felt like the best way to introduce the League.
When forming the idea for this video, it was tricky. How do you introduce a whole team of people, predominately male, without showing them? As it turns out, it's actually extremely easy lol. I used the Vampire to describe them and their lore and I felt that was a sufficient way to get the job done. Having her and Van Helsing in a side room describing the events of the meeting made for both a good gossipy way to do it while retaining the personal attention of the video.
I saw speculation in the comments that The Vampire was based on Mina Harker, but she's not. As ya'll have probably learned by now, I'm a big fan of taking existing content and tropes and adding my own spin and narratives to make it fresh and original. The Vampire, much like The Nun, Goth Girl, her sister etc. are all original and not based on prior characters. That's not to say inspiration from media doesn't play a big part in forming ideas, but in this case, The Vampire stands alone!
Anyway, I hope ya'll have a very Merry Christmas!!! Look forward to more videos soon! I have some cool ideas coming up and I'm excited to share them with you through the rest of December and beyond!!!
