Tragically, she was sold into slavery to pay off the debt. Despite his promise to pay her ransom as soon as possible, her father never came back. Citlalin eventually lost contact with her family as she traveled throughout the Valley of Mexico, beginning in the slave market of Azcapotzalco and going through Tlacopan, Cuauhtitlan, and Xochimilco.

◉ Birthday

Citlalin was born on April 11st, 1456. In the Mexica calendar, it's the Year of 3-Flint (Tecpatl), Month of Tozoztontli, Week of Movement (Ollin), Day of 4-Flower (Xochitl). The dates of the Mexica calendar are a combination of numbers and symbols. It determines the deity that presides over each day, and the potential fate of the person born on that day.

The 'week' of Citlalin's birthday corresponds to the symbol of Ollin, 'movement'. In the Mexica calendar, 13-day period (so-called 'trecana') is similar to the 'week' of the modern calendar. Each 'week' is named after the symbol that occurs on the first day of the period. The week that starts with the day 1-Ollin is ruled by the goddess Tlazolteotl. Tlazolteotl is the goddess of the human fertility and of sexuality. Under the influence of the goddess, Citlalin greatly enjoys sex. Her enormous breasts and buttocks have earned her the title of 'incarnation of the fertility goddess' from her clients.

Citlalin's birthday corresponds to the sign 'Xochitl', or 'flower'. Goddess Xochiquetzal rules over this day. Woman born on this day would be an able embroiderer. However, in order to achieve that skill, they had to do great penences and worship the god well. If they do not, they are said to fall into poverty, carnal desire, and prostitution. This is because Xochiquetzal is the patron of courtesans and female sexuality.

◉ Career

Citlalin was sold into slavery at the age of seven to a peasant family in Tlacopan. She worked for several years, learning to weave cloth and doing household chores. In 1469, at the age of 13, her employer was killed at Tehuantepec during an inaugural war of Axayacatl. She was bought by a merchant from Tenayuca, where she was able to live in relative comfort, working mainly as a weaver. However, in 1473, when she was 17, her new employer was killed by Tenochca army in the war between Tlatelolco and Tenochtitlan. The merchant's son inherited her and offered her as a bribe in a deal with a nobleman in Xochimilco. There, her abilities were recognized and she was assigned to teach weaving to the nobleman's daughters. Citlalin learned the courtly manners of the nobility and, thanks to the young noble girls in her care, acquired a some degree of education. This would come in handy later in her career as a courtesan.

However, in 1475, at the age of 19, she narrowly escaped death when she found out that her employer was planning to sacrifice her as an ixptla (impersonator of a deity) at the upcoming Ochpaniztli festival. She then fled to Tenochtitlan, a metropolis where she could lay low and remain anonymous. But begging was not enough to make ends meet, so she started prostitution in the Tlatelolco market.

Despite her humble beginnings as a woman of the street, her outstanding appearance and flamboyant demeanor earned her a reputation among wealthy clients. In 1486, at the age of 30, she met Xochimazatl and won the favor of him. Under his patronage, she quickly became Tlatelolco's most famous courtesan. She now only accepts nobles, generals, and high-ranking merchants as a client. Also she often attends the state festivals and rituals as a representative of ahuianime.

◉ Personal Life

Citlalin is a strong, energetic, and independent woman. She is very flamboyant and talkative to the point of being almost theatrical, which is, to some extent, a way of hiding her many vulnerabilities. She doesn't reveal much about herself, with only a few close friends knowing her true self. Which may be influenced by the nature of her job, which requires her to consistantly interact with a lot of people.

Citlalin is an excellent weaver and makes her own clothes, which she sells on the market to supplement her income. She is also skilled in make-up and styling, and often takes care of the appearance of her fellow ahuianime. Her favorite hairstyle is to bound up on one side and left haning loose on the other side. And she dyes her hair indigo with xiuhquilitl dye. Then her head is decorated with flowers. She also make up her lips and eyes with red cosmetics made from cochineal, and decorate her bodies with colorful patterns using clay stamps. In her spare time, she enjoys making jewelry such as earrings, necklaces, and bracelets out of obsidian, leather, reed, conch shell, copper, and pottery. Xochimazatl has given her expensive jewelry, including gold, jade, and turquoise, but she only wears it when she meets with him because it is illegal for a prostitute to wear it in public. Meanwhile, she frequently chew tzictli, or chicle as a chewing gum to remove bad breath and attract customers.

Citlalin goes to the Tlatelolco market almost every day to chat with friends. But, more importantly, it is where she interacts with her customers. She is well-known in the elite society of Tenochtitlan, so she openly flirts with wealthy clients. She doesn't need to go to the market to find customers because most of them come to her ahuianicalli (House of pleasure) on their own. However, she still prefers the lively atmosphere of the market and conducts most of her business there. Citlalin has a huge sex drive and is a master of seduction and sex, capable of satisfying almost anyone.

◉ Relationship with Xochimazatl

Xochimazatl met Citlalin by chance in Tlatelolco market when he was 18 years old. Citlalin was twelve years older than he was, so she adored him and satisfied his many curiosities. With the blessing of Huehuecoyotl, Xochimazatl's libido, virility, and the size of his genitals rapidly increased, making him one of Citlalin's favorite clients.

Xochimazatl also had a turbulent childhood, and his personality fit well with Citlalin. So their bond grew stronger. Xochimazatl asked her to join his household as a concubine, but Citlalin declined. Xochimazatl then introduced Citlalin to Tenochtitlan's elite society, where she was able to flourish as an ahuiani and became a celebrity.

Below is a timeline of Citlalin and Xochimazatl's life.
