Thank you darkly darling for making these beautiful heart pasties for me! A while back i gifted darkly darling with a subscription to the PATREON of Christina Manuge of Manuge et Toi Design to learn how to make burlesque costumes. There is an art to, and strong design function behind each costume. Iโm so impressed by the level of product she has been turning out. Christina definitely does not shortcut her designs and teaches us how to elevate our own designs. I also subscribe to her PATREON for years now and keep learning more every day. Vintage neon ostrich feather boas picked by Tiff Little Fingers Vintage. Tribute G-string by Sew Very Dangerous Lingerie.
While we don't have an exact year of when pasties were first used, belly dancers, and exotic performers at the 1893 World's Fair in Chicago wore a type of metal breastplate covered in gems and metallic attachments where the nipple would be. Those eventually evolved into smaller pasties used in circuses and burlesque houses in the 1920s as they added more gems and tassels and eventually evolved into what you might be more familiar on the stage today.
One of my favorites, Jennie Lee aka "the Bazoom Girl" aka "the Burlesque Version of Jayne Mansfield" aka "Miss 44 and Plenty More", who performed in the 50s and 60s, helped make tassel twirling popular. She was known for her pastie propellers.
And today you can even find pasties on the red carpet and even in the clothing section at Target today.
