I am currently in Illinois preparing my space at “The Stripping History” museum. As I organize my archives, I’m running across some great content that I want to share with you. This incredible, hand made, stage worn burlesque set was made by Lorraine Gail Smith, a feature dancer in Boston’s Combat Zone. The Combat Zone was America’s first adult playground that was intentionally segregated by local politicians and police as a neighborhood where anything goes. Deeply embedded in mob life, In the 60’s and 70’s Washington Street between Boylston Street and Kneeland Street, the area where you could frequent strip clubs, movie theaters, and adult bookstores and so much more! Lorraine was a regular at the Two O’clock Lounge. She was known to be very serious about her burlesque and acting career. So serious that she constructed each of her costumes by hand. She wanted to exude elegance, and she did! Thank you @y.ulietta for embodying Lorraine so beautifully #strippinghistory photos @jscheuch
Here are some BTS pics of this portion of the shoot with Yulietta as well as 2 movies she played as an extra. You will find a few articles from the Boston Globe as well. Please feel free to purchase the reference books.
