I've been working with my friend Sio to get some promo done for our Riot Fest meet and greet and after show at The Empty Bottle in Chicago. As we are all aware, the censorship on Instagram and Facebook is just out of control. But this week, trying to do a promoted post for our show we were both prohibited from doing so. We were flagged for sexual content, despite all of the photos on the post being fully censored. So I went to check out the reason why, figuring of course that it was because of something silly, which it was. But when I did further exploration I found something really interesting. Ads that focus on a specific body part (whether sexual or not), excessive visible skin, ARTISTIC IMPLIED NUDITY....all non-compliant. But a realistic depiction of male genitalia is fine. Please make it make sense. I don't understand what the criteria for acceptable art is, but I think it's important to remember that across time, space, culture, media, whatever...the first recorded images time and again are images of naked people, usually women. I appealed the decision, but of course they doubled down. This shit gets exhausting!
