There are a lot of different ways of expressing gender. Drag happens to be one of my favorites. It’s honestly so much fun, even if it is as simple as slapping on a moustache. My sisters and I used to go around wearing fake staches all of the time. I even named my burlesque troupe Burlesque Le’ Moustache!
Of course, just like with everything else there are myriad opinions about drag. Some people love it, some people think it’s an abomination. Some people think that you can’t have any other gender expression than a cis-gendered man to be truly doing drag. Even the most famous Drag Queen herself, RuPaul, has gotten in trouble for not allowing trans women and cis-women to compete on the show. Things have obviously since changed and a number of trans-women have competed. For me, if you say you’re doing drag then that’s all I need to know! I don’t care about who you are in your day to day to know that if you’re creatively expressing yourself it’s not for me to say you aren’t. If you’re a woman and you get all dolled up as a woman and tell me you’re doing drag, that’s right you sure are. If you’re a man and put glitter in your beard and dress up like a space alien, i love that drag too!
So many people take themselves too damn SERIOUSLY!! But the truth is, we’re not going to make it out of this world alive so just enjoy yourself and be kind to others. Lead with love 💕
Have you ever wanted to get in drag? Have you ever gone through with it? What’s stopping you from trying? Please feel free to explain.
