The Evolution of a Costume

This might be one of the most documented evolutions of any of my costumes, but it is certainly not the only one that has gone through this much change.

There are so many options to add to a costume to personalize it. I’m constantly finding new things to pin, sew, sequin, bedazzle, hem, repair. It takes SO much time and energy to get a costume to its completed state for stage but it’s so fun to see them grow. I’ll be debuting this costume be at Dirty Show Detroit in February. Will you be joining me?!

On a very exciting note!!!

My baby girls Memphis, (Lolah LeClaire) will join me for this baptism into the Detroit fetish world. She will not perform this year but She will see so many of her old caretakers and babysitters from the Chicago and some NYC area that perform this show each year, and Memphis will finally meet old friends I have never introduced her to because of her youth but this trip she will finally be old enough to see the only show she was not allowed to attend as a young lady. My kids always came with me to work clubs, theatres, etc, but Dirty Show was always a bit too fetish heavy and mature for her before. Now she is wanting to better learn the art of fetish and stage striptease performance, and who better to learn from than my trusted lifelong friends who helped me raise her in the Midwest, and folks new to her but long time friends of mine, who also work with me at Dirty Show Detroit each year.

I never envisioned that she would be standing on burlesque stages but I’m thrilled! I’m incredibly proud of her for working so hard to do something she loves. Who knows maybe someday she will grace that Dirty Show Stage? At least I know she will be always safe and surrounded by those who have been my strength in life. She will have the best crew ever to protect and love her and at times, put her in her place. We all need this.
