What does it mean to be a modern day witch? Are black cats and pointy hats a necessary addition? No. But I do have both and regularly use them in my rituals.

The trick to a good spell is setting your intention.

What do you want your spell to achieve? Who do you want to affect? Be as specific as possible in your intentions. Try not to include too many intentions. Keep it simple sweetie.

Be clear, concise and organized in your thoughts.

It’s important to understand that the universe recycles everything, especially energy. Therefore your intentions will come back to visit you in one form or another. Think it through.

Colors, herbs, seasons, sun and moon are all important elements in any ritual. Personally, I am not beholden to hard and fast rules in my rituals but find that one ingredient can often be replaced with another. However it is important to understand the phases of the moon.

If you’re a beginner that’s fine. I’m no gatekeeper to magic but find that my intentions are the most important piece of any ritual.

Often times I’ll perform rituals while traveling or working. Short, sweet, fast, 3-5 minute spells with only my intention and they work! The added fluff of colors, herbs etc can be manifested with your intention alone if you do not have access to ingredients, Although I always travel with my essential oils.

Casting daylight spells helps us keep our attention on our intentions. It’s great mental preparation to keep at the forefront of our minds and hearts, the work we must do to achieve the desired results. Because there will be work. Mental or physical, your own hard work is absolutely needed to bring your desires to fruition.

Some folks believe only in white magic, or positive magic, “Do no harm” is a Wiccan creed you will see often. For myself, I believe that all magic is good magic if used in the right way. Just like cooking, a pinch of spicy hot pepper can make a recipe delicious but a spoonful of them directly in your mouth will be painful.

It’s all about balance.

Here’s a cute, fun ritual I found online for making friends. The only way for a spell to work is if you truly believe that it will work. These cute little spells that I find on the Internet can be just that, cute little spells, made for fun and nothing else. Or… You can take the concept and the ingredients and tailor the ritual more towards your specific taste, needs and desires.

Just like when I’m cooking in the kitchen, I rarely use the same ingredient twice for the same spell. Usually depends on what I have in the cupboards. If I missing an ingredient, I replace it with another ingredient that fills the bill, or I forgo the ingredient all together but the intention is there and if I have my intentions and most of the parts in the right place then the spell tends to work beautifully.

“Some people can make friends just like that, but for others it’s not so easy. You might be shy or worried about making the first move. You might have had to move away from your home town, or you’ve just started a new job. This spell will help you to make and keep new friends.

You will need:

A blank postcard

A gold pen

A bay leaf

Clear adhesive tape

30cm of thin gold ribbon

What you do:

Do this spell on a Sunday or a Wednesday, or on a new or full moon. The postcard is to write your request for new friends to enter your life. Take the gold pen and at the top write the word WANTED, then underline it. Now write what kind of friends you would like in your life.

You could write something like:

WANTED Fun and caring friends at work/school/home Who like me for who I am. New friends who I can confide in, Go out with and enjoy myself with.

When you've done this, stick the bay leaf to the postcard. Carefully roll up the postcard into a tube shape and tie the gold ribbon around it.

Leave the scroll on your bedroom windowsill for 24 hours so that your message will be carried to the universe, then place the scroll somewhere in your bedroom. You should soon see new friends.”

If you choose to use this spell, let me know how it works for you.

I’ve shared a handful of my rituals with you, so I think you have an idea of how I operate. I don’t pay attention to the phases of the moon. My altar is transitory in nature, but when I set it up, it’s usually a sword, a couple candles, and a rotating coterie of statuettes. I like making sigils more than anything. And burning said sigils in my “cauldron” (it’s really just a cast iron camping pot). I agree that intention is key, but, for me, there’s a degree of psychology involved both for myself and for the object of my ritual. If I curse someone, it’s to help me purge myself of negative energy or decompress. If you let slip to the target of the ritual that they’ve been cursed, it’s going to work on their psyche and they’ll end up fulfilling the curse themselves. If I try to do a compassion ritual for myself, it never works. But if I do a ritual for a friend (or a friend of a friend) and they know I’m doing one on their behalf, I think it provides a boost to their spirits and gives them a warm fuzzy feeling. I think self rituals fail for me because I just can’t boost my own spirits that way. I also believe that once you’ve released your energy during ritual, you should just forget what you’ve just done. Expending the energy worrying whether the ritual worked or not is self-defeating. I could go on, but I don’t want to take up more space.

It is sad that in the last few decades the younger generations are taking it as a game. I am very glad my son is picking it up since a very young age and he keeps it to himself not to show off. Love the pic. Should be on the store. Blessed Be

It's such an important part of a ritual that gets lost a lot of time in the pageantry.

🎶 I put a spell on you 🎶 Teasing! Yes, those are key ingredients to be sure.

Everyone believes in their own thing. If it doesn't work for you, leave it. If it does, that's amazing! Everyone finds their bliss how and where they can. 😊

You hit the nail wit the intention comment. Blessed Be

Danielle, I don't know how much I believe in magic of any sort but it seems to me that the only ingredients you should need to make friends are your beautiful eyes and your warm, wonderful smile...

Okee- Dokee Dannie, I'm not a believer in any spells but this is interesting reading. Thanks for sharing sweetie.
