Welcome to stripping history! We’re happy to have you. Today, as always we are normalizing respectful conversations around striptease and sex work.

Because laws and religion have villianized nudity and overt sexuality, we humans have been indoctrinated with shame, especially around the topic of sex.

Because of this indoctrination, these can be difficult and taboo topics. We are going to challenge each other to hold space for taboo topics on this forum. That said, you will be learning a little bit about the incredible life of my dear friend Jo Weldon. We will talk with her about her history in burlesque, striptease, nightclubs, queerness, sex work activism, marginalization, strip club do’s and dont’s, sex work and fashion intersectionality and more.

Jo is a brilliant femme who regularly, bravely and openly speaks out about the history of this important work, so in this stripping history episode with Jo Weldon she will be answering many of the questions that you’ve always wanted to know about these industries, what they have in common amd how we can better support each other as sex workers including sex work adjacent industries such as striptease and burlesque.

Jo will also take her time to let us know how we can best advocate for people in these industries, even if we are not personally working in them.

Jo has been telling me for years that one of the best ways to advocate is to open up dialogue about these conversations in a non-judgemental way.

So here we go! Put on your thinking caps because you’re about to think of the world in a very different way than you ever have before.

I don’t think I’ll explode but the gears in my brain definitely need to be greased. There was smoke coming off the top of my head.💣💣

Thank you for watching and digesting! I bet your mind stomach is about to explode. I definitely have more interviews with others on the horizon, too.

Put my thinking cap on is an understatement! There sure is a lot to digest. The interview is fantastic. You and Jo definitely left me with a better understanding of the things a woman goes through to make a living as a sex worker. You don't start at the top. Telling us about being a street walker and working in a brothel is one thing but having to deal with a cop that wants sex to keep you from being arrested just ain't right. Talking about choosing to trade sex for food or a place to sleep or a bus ticket takes guts. I admire your courage. Maybe courage isn't the right word, with the main point of the interview being that sex work is honest work even though it's frowned on by many people. Then telling us about Memphis being kidnapped. Thankfully nothing horrible happened to her. These are the things that stick in my mind first. Several other things were discussed and I'll gladly watch again to remember them. I'm looking forward to the new interviews to be posted. Thank you Jo and Dannielle for sharing.
