Here’s a little sneak peek of the tiny Chenille apartment I made in my downstairs speakeasy and studio for myself and my friends (please excuse my mess I was workshopping costumes) When we have Patreon live shows we will be getting ready in this space. It’s true vintage Criollo architecture and terazo tile. I love the vintage feel.
This space used to be a bakery a lifetime ago. My friend Gabriela says her Daddy would take her in to pick out Donas when she was a little girl. I adore that story.
This is just the beginning. We still have so much work to do but we will get there.
There are so many roadblocks to productivity on an island. I must say my daughter Memphis is right, it takes twice as long to accomplish anything here than it does back home, between the power and water outages, small tropical storms, earthquakes and natural disasters. Yet something about that makes me feel even more pride in my accomplishments here, be they small or large.
For now I’m taking it moment by moment. I tried to throw my back into it yesterday but lost power at 2pm till about 9pm so I had no light or air conditioning and it was pretty damn hot and muggy after yesterday’s 2pm storm that knocked out the power. I’m lucky to have Debbie and Danny because they came by before the dark fell to help me with the generator. I didn’t want to pass the night with no power at all so putting on the generator was about the best I could do. It gets so damn hot so fast with no fan or Air conditioning so When the power went out I filled the outside bath with water in case I got too hot but didn’t end up using it so after my run this morning I will use that water to bathe.
The power popped back on at about 9pm so I was able to close up the house and clean up a bit better. So much dog poop to clean up outside! I guess that’s the down side of having giant dogs. They have giant poops! That will be a two day job now since the power outage.
The comfort of electricity is something special at night so I’m thankful I had it last night. In the dark stillness I can convince myself of too many terrible and dangerous things especially up here in the mountains, but in the in the glow of the late night TV I can see all my colorful chenille and feel a bit less alone while Jeremy is gone in Chicago for Riot Fest.
So here I go again, on my own, to find a good running spot and go help my baby girl get packed for her big move to Texas on October 1.
How will you be spending your day?
