Wet Wednesday: Reach Out, Touch Faith

Sometimes the world gets loud. Two of the best ways to drown it out are through music and through actually drowning it out with water. Going under the surface, everything gets quiet. Sometimes that's scary! But most of the time it's super relaxing. Being able to only hear my heartbeat and the sound of the moving water is all I need to clear my mind. When I can't get into my studio to dance it out, I take to the ocean. It's been hard to find the time and space to dance as much as I would like with the move. Having a house full of boxes feels overwhelming and makes me a little antsy. When I get feeling that way I know it's time to get beneath the waves. How do you self-soothe?

I understand the feeling. Breathing techniques are good too. They help me a lot. I notice myself using breathing techniques even when I’m not thinking about it. I’ll find myself just doing it second nature now. There’s some really good ones on YouTube

My brain while reading that was, “Nope, nope. Can’t do the underwater thing.” But… when I wasn’t as big as I am now, I would lay back in the bathtub at bath time with my head half-submerged, ears underwater, and experience the almost exact thing you’re talking about. And you’re right. That was quite soothing. These days, finding ways to soothe myself when anxiety hits or the World gets to be too overwhelming is more difficult. 😞
