Here are a few ways you and I can start today to reduce our footprint and help our oceans. 1. Make seafood choices that are sustainable. Meaning, either eating no seafood or making in season local seafood options. Stop buying from companies that use longline fishing techniques that overfish our oceans. 2. Cut down drastically on out plastic usage. Make purchase choices that are plastic free when possible or are not single use plastics if plastic is needed. But try to avoid using plastics near beaches and waterways. Most Paddleboards, surf boards are ocean toys are plastic, or resin use them responsibly. Make them last. Pass them down. Reuse them until their very last possible use. 3. Vote!!! Learn who in legislation cares about your local waterways. Vote representatives in that care about our rivers, lakes and oceans. Here @eliezermolinapr is fighting hard (They are out there) call and write your legislative representatives about your concerns. Get involved on a personal level. 4. Buy sustainable products like local handmade goods that don’t destroy our waterways with pollution. This bikini is handmade by a local swimwear company @oakumcollection and is made in small batches, which is more sustainable for our environment. 5. Watch our fossil fuel emissions by driving less, walking more, taking our time to get places that are close by (within walking distance) is a true joy most times. It allows us to stop and see what’s happening Our neighborhood. It allows us to meet our neighbors and normalize the “other”. Walking really helps ground us and give us a sense of security in our own environment. We can assess pollution problems during that time as well within our own communities. Now, You don’t have to be the caretaker of the actions of others but if we each take accountability for ourselves in bite sized pieces we can make a big difference. I will be back with more tips on how to reduce, reuse and recycle while traveling and playing around our waterways.
