How can vintage help our environment?

How can vintage help our environment? Humans are wasteful creatures, this we know. So many flash in the pan fashions start out with a bang and then I find them littering the aisles of thrift stores and attics all across America. Defunct reminders of the social acceptance we just had to have then discarded when social opinions change. I’m guilty if it too! Trust! Buying primarily vintage clothing can help decrease our carbon footprint and give us a more unique sense of style. One that’s not dependent on modern trends. But vintage can be sooooo expensive! Very true! But it can also be quite affordable. I urge you to shop for vintage locally in church basements, grandmas attic, local thrift spots etc. I find incredible and affordable vintage shopping across the country locally while I’m traveling for work. This gently worn, slightly damaged white piano shawl was purchased at a local joint in the Quad Cities called Fred and Ethel's for way less than I would have found it at a high end vintage shop. It’s in decent condition but not perfect, yet it still is an impactful accessory. As a burlesque artist Costume‘s can be incredibly expensive. This entire burlesque ensemble comprised of two pieces cost me about $200. Both pieces were slightly damaged but I was able to take them home and fix the damages to make them look like new. My beautiful Koschnick I’m wearing on my head was picked by Tiff Little Fingers. It was a damaged piece that she sold me at a very good price. I took my time and energy and fixed many of the damages so that it looks like new! By creating very simple recycled burlesque costumes like this, I’m saving myself a ton of money and giving active thought to my carbon footprint on this planet. $200 may be way too much for you to spend on a costume or outfit but I am going to be talking more about affordable burlesque costuming and daily wear vintage clothing. High-end vintage is cool as hell because it’s so rare however, rare doesn’t always mean beautiful or in demand. It just means rare. Im in love with costuming so this is what I’m drawn to. I’m guessing if you follow me you must love to shop for vintage? What is your favorite vintage style to buy?

Gorgeous. Beautiful. Words are inadequate to convey the full majesty of your being.

I love your passion for vintage, but I haven't bought anything vintage yet, although I also want to decrease my carbon footprint.

One of the many things I love about you, Danielle, is how you think outside the box. Why buy new clothing when, with a little bit of effort, you can find serviceable and classically stylish pieces that were previously used but still have so much to give. Well, I don't buy vintage, but I also don't buy often. I buy clothing I like, ignore the "trends", and wear what I own until it's beyond redemption. So, in a sense, you and I accomplish the same thing. We both get as much as we can from the clothes that we buy and reduce our carbon footprint in the process. Of course, you are breathtaking in whatever you wear. I consider it a good day if I don't scare small children as I walk down the street. So, there's that...

I adore thrifting 50s party dresses. I look for metal zippers as the giveaway. They always fit so lovely and create gorgeous shape (give me hips because I have none!) and the quality is spectacular. 💖💖💖 my most recent and exceptional thrifting treasure is a vintage 2 piece costume set I found from a seller who posts on Instagram (they mostly sell clothes and sometimes some drag costumes). It’s a “BARBARA MATERA LTD.” for “Miss Edmead” and the inside of the headpiece has a handwritten tag that says “BREEDLOVE” - its gorgeous sequins and beading and feathers, with a stunning headpiece. I can’t wait to take photos in it! I paid $200 for the two pieces and it’s in pristine condition.
