2022-06-12 18:44:31 +0000 UTCI feel the same way about Riley. I think Buffy loves him too but nothing she does is ever good enough. To me, actions speak louder than words, and she has proved it again and again she loves him. He wants her to NEED him, but I don't think that is healthy.

He wants Buffy to turn to him, not because she needs to, but because he needs her to. Riley makes her problems about him. He wants Buffy to lean on him. But Buffy's been trained to be self-sufficient. In School Hard 203 Giles tell them, "When it comes to battle Buffy must fight alone You are after all the Slayer." She doesn't need him the way he needs to be needed.
