FRESH & NEW

When I was a kid, my favorite color was the Crayola Sky Blue. It was the first crayon to be worn down to a nub in my big 64 crayon box, and I could never look at the box the same once that particular color was gone. So when Erika showed up to my house on this day and began pulling outfits from her bag, laying them on my sofa like she always has, this blue lingerie set jumped out at me.

Life is often far more complicated than anyone lets on, myself and Erika included. We’ve each had medical and personal issues in our lives lately. Erika definitely had a challenging year and was happy to welcome 2020 with open arms. She is one of the strongest, bravest people I know, and even in the face of constant struggle, she always manages to pull herself up and be sweet, kindhearted, and productive.

This was taken on a casual afternoon in my back yard. Nothing fancy, just us hanging out as we often do, talking, drinking, being silly, and trying to cheer each other up about our individual and varying frustrations. Taking photos is almost just an excuse for her to come overland more and more, she just stops by and we don’t shoot, we just visit and hang. It’s a refreshing diversion form the dull vagaries of every day life.

So please, I hope her silly faces and antics can cheer you up now that the new year has started and some of the same old problems have probably started creeping in. I wish you all a wonderful weekend!
