The contrast of the bleakness of the last few chapters to genie is so jarring. Not in a bad way, I would have found him ridiculously annoying at any other point in the story, but here it just made me feel as overwhelmed as Elaine probably feels having skipped thousands of years.

I think you'll be surprised how many fairly common words were derived from the name of someone who was famous at the time but largely unknown now. And most of those are relatively recent additions to the language. If the proto Indo-European root of some modern word was based on the name of someone who died 10,000 years ago there's basically no way even the people who study these things would know about it.

Surely, it doesn't even sound like "Elaine" by this point in modern languages. This shift from name to healer is not something natural considering how reverred are Healer's Manuscripts.

@AlexeyGladkich Well what exactly constitutes being "aware of the origin of the manuscripts?" They know they were written by someone in ancient Remus named Elaine, and also that "elaine" means "healer" in at least some languages. Even in her time it's not like most people in Remus knew much (or anything really) about Elaine. And sure, Palos has immortals, but only a couple vampires and 3 elves (well, and one dragon) ever even met Elaine. Like, what do we know about Homer? "Someone named Homer is credited with composing some ancient Greek epics." That's it. We don't even know if that was a real name or if there actually even was a single person behind those poems. Hell, there's some controversy over who exactly Shakespeare was, and that's a lot more recent with much less linguistic barrier and many more surviving records. The point is, after 20,000 (or even 1,000) years, it makes perfect sense for "Elaine" to be nothing more than letters on a scroll.

The School of Spellcraft and Sorcery survived as an institution but I have my doubts that it's in the same spot and occupying the original buildings. There's got to have been severe disruptions of their records over the eons, particularly during the Immortal Wars and the fall of Remus. They might not even remember that Artemis founded the school, even though she's remembered in song. As to those who are or become aware of the origin of the manuscripts (Immortal and otherwise): how many of them would care? Or are willing to put in effort to correct the record? Also, given the elves still speak Creation, every last one of *them* might be aware of the truth.

I don't really see Amber as some powerful mage slinging spells around to kill monsters. She's more of a clever trickster, scamming fairies and finding creative solutions. For a mage class I could see her take a Mirage class and become an illusionist. Her experiences with the fae should give her a decent class quality. It would also be a solution to getting out of the forrest, although she'd need to train a Water mage class to level 32 first. It would also allow her to become a magical thief, use her new eye to spot valuable things, nick them while invisible, get away scot-free thanks to her lucky coin and then sell it with her innate merchant skills. And for someone as greedy as her who can suddenly see the value of everything and has abnormal luck, it's really the logical next step.

@DavidJohnson that's definitely not explainable by linguistic drift. We still refer to ancient medical Oaths and math theorems by their names, by the names of their authors. And in some cases thousands of years have passed. Here we have countries full of immortal people. How can they forget? If it wasn't curse then some combinations of really dumb and fucked up things must have happened for her name to be forgotten. Say, the manuscripts were always written in the Creation Language - over time it became a privileged language like Latin IRL. Then collapse of Remus and flood happened leading to lots of problems. Still don't know good to answer to why School of Spellcraft and Sorcery and immortals are unaware of origin of the manuscripts.

Well now that she has the experience of many years as a merchant, and has the eye to catch a good deal, I don't think she needs a merchant class. Is like being a fish and having a swimming skill when swimming is natural. So I do agree that she could change the class and get something useful. The best part of it all is that all healers seem to be alone for some reason and not have allies, thus why the healer from the south got killed so quickly. Shell have her own small force plus an academy and a kingdom to back her up

Haven't read the discord, but I'm pretty sure this is all explainable as simple linguistic drift. After a century or two almost no one would have remembered Elaine as a person, just a signature on the healing manuscripts. Night would have remembered, but he's not going to go out of his way to set the record straight - that's not his style. Just like lots of English words have their origins in the names of historical or mythological figures, Elaine's name became synonymous with the concept and ideals of healers over time. And Night thinking of her as "the healer" isn't really suspicious. At that point she's been gone 1000 years, while her manuscripts continue to have a lasting impact - Night may remember her as a person if he takes the time to recall it, but in practical terms she really is just "healer" by that time.

The reason why I believe [Plague Mage] is sensible for Amber - is due to vaccines. It is one of the weakness of standart healers is that their healing doesn't help people develop resistance. Specialized [Plague Mage] on the other hand should be capable of producing and controlling a weaker strand of the disease and effectively vaccinate people. Or create disease that doesn't cause any symptoms but fights against other diseases. All the while providing some tricky offensive magic.

I highly doubt she will. it will probably get a utility class, the kind I don't know. Maybe Amber has the [Dawn Disciple Mage- Radiance] class option. But I don't know how strong it would be, since Elaine didn't teach her magic. But I think she might be a Spatial mage, a gravity mage would be nice so she could try flying, Gale could solve their air problem, maybe the ever-reliable earth mage to kill the spiders. Anyway, I'm curious what it will be.

@DavidBrims all [Butterfly Mystic] skills are capped except for [Solar Flare] and [Scintillating Ascent]... neither of which were used in anyway. Though, due to learning theme I'd expect some level up from the flying skill. However, she didn't get much levels in [Passionate Learning] either... so perhaps Faerie magic was causing some issues in the leveling department.

About the reason why people forgotten her name and just refer to her as Healer in the manuscript. Clearly, this has to be the work of the fae - a curse. She was found by a faerie that hates her and he didn't do anything apparent. But he must've done something, right? Also Night couldn't properly recall her name after a while in his interlude - he didn't refer to her by name. And we've seen now that Faeries can do weird thing to names.

I don't think Selkie needs to put in every *ding!*. It would be very strange for Fae Remembrance to be called Immortal Recollections on her status sheet at the end. Elaine was the one who took the most precautions against Fae shenanigans (i.e. tried to follow the rules), any lingering problems seem more likely to have entangled one of the others, to my mind.

Just had a thought: Elaine and co should check the descriptions of all their skills, because even if the name hasn't changed, the description or effect might have. In particular I'm thinking of Sentinel's Superiority. The description in chapter 117 was all about Humanity, but it would likely have changed if all current Sentinels are Vampires or a wide range of species.

It wasn't actually narrative convenience. I just... set the world, then hit "ACTION!". Artemis has always had [Wandering Mage], and when I went through my notes, after this happened, Artemis should gain a lot of levels. The degree of wandering I judged to be on-par with Elaine healing Lun'Kat, so Artemis got a similar number of levels.

My theory about humans getting kicked off the system is still that it was that one high level goat that Elaine attacked, bearing a grudge for 10000 years. Mostly because the Genie says something in the follow-up message about humans responding quickly, unlike goats (and also because it's hilarious).

I mean, Elaine got around the same amount of levels for the Shimagu city incident, even if Artemis class is wandering mage they didn't exactly explore the fea realm, 50 lvls would already seem generous, Autumn did a lot and any amount of levelling could be justified, I know its plot armour but still, maybe its my biases against Artemis but it seems pretty random

@Alexey Gladkich ,Agree, Julius must have leveled very little in the Fae realm compared to Elaine (the whole experience went to Auri) and Artemis. When he first met Elaine, Julius was level 240, apparently he reset his classes once. So he had 2 ranger rounds, and spent like 4 years as a commander. He should be around 260. With the levels of having entered the Fae world, maybe he's around level 310~~330. I don't know what his classes get bonuses from.

That would definitely be hillarious, but I'm not sure they would keep level 700 creatures, even in the biggest petstore of the world. But, in regards to the Fairy Rings, I don't think they reappeared in one, and even then, who says the Fairy ring was there first?

I'm pretty sure its gonna be Maxed until the end. Remember, she got almost twentyTHOUSAND years worth of Highlevel healers leveling the Skill. Even if she only gets 0,1% of the experience of other people leveling the Skill, I doubt that there were less than a thousand Oath-healers at any one time after the Oath spread around. If even such circumstances only yield 1000 Levels, then it would be bascially impossible to reach the 2000 level range, and there have been mentions of people like that.

@Alexey, @Shoto, good arguments! I'll concede that point. I do still think that Artemis ended up lower level than Selkie wanted at this point, and used the fae excuse to power level Artemis. As a Commander, I think Julius's level is less relevant to his ability to contribute, same with Amber as a negotiater/trader.

At least not as big as Artemis had. @DavidBrims fairly certain that Selkie planned to have Artemis join Elaine in the future arc right from the start. In pre-planned arcs certain directions can feel contrived and out of place. I don't see anything out of place in either Artemis desicions or her choice of classes.

@David Brims ,She did not intend to retire and found the school, who came up with the idea for the school was Elaine when she was with the Rangers. At that time Artemis was already at level 300 in both classes. And her classes are [Lightning-Wandering Mage] and [Earth-Mage Ranger]. And it's not like Artemis's 2 classes don't level up after she leaves the Rangers, the gain from traveling and problem solving in both classes is just a bonus. Likewise, it's a bonus that Elaine's healing class gains experience from Sentinel quests, and the mystical butterfly class gains experience when Elaine sees new spells. Artemis still levels up his classes by killing monsters and training.

Yes, but she intended to retire and establish the school, so why didn't she take a more appropriate 256 class-up option for that? And regardless of when she did her class-up, Selkie didn't allocate her class until chapter 211, and then specifically mentioned that the class was handicapped from advancing because she wasn't 'wandering' anymore. If Selkie had intended Artemis to end up finishing the story teaching at her school it would've been more natural to give her a slightly better class for that, I think. Of course, I admit I could be reading too much into it, but I think Selkie by chapter 211 already intended for Artemis to accompany Elaine into the future.

First mention of Artemis' class (first mention of that class for any character) wasn't until book 5 / chapter 211 when she already established the school.

I like how the genie went out of his way to misinterpret and nullify some of the nastier wishes. Like Helediron's wish for monsters to get bonus XP (which the Genie either interpreted so narrowly that few monsters got the bonus, or so broadly that everyone got the bonus), the warning he added about the consequences of the everflowing waterfall (which first prompted someone to get Humans kicked off the System, then prompted someone else to come up with that stringently worded wish to fix the flooding problem), his deliberate misinterpretation of the end-the-world wish, the warning about Thraximundar the Terrible (and possibly put a weakness/limitation on him?), and did anyone else note that message about how Void Mages aren't blowing themselves up they are being blown up BY SOMEONE?

Related is the free stat point gain retroactive, looking at Elaine's free stats of 204 it seems not as if she had got the free stats for the levels gained before those extra free points became available it would be a lot higher.

The XP boost is 6% for humans. There's also Hercules [Hero] from the earliest ages that achieved a great feat. Auri got XP mainly due to Elaine's class [Mystic Butterfly] that loves all the faerie magic and crazy experiences. Similarly to how Artemis' [Wanderin Mage] got serious boost due to travelling in the Fae Realm.

Thanks for the surprise. There is so much so dissect in the chapter. Do general skills work the same way as classes and class skills? When you hit a class up level, any experience gained gets banked and then doesn't get applied until you class up. Likewise, the class skills cannot go beyond the overall class level. It they do work that way, it would mean that Elaine's Oath will now basically always keep pace with her main class level since it will have accumulated an outrageous amount of XP over the 24,000 years. I'm not clear in what caused Auri to reach level 128. It's possible that whatever caused it gave enough XP that as soon as she classes up, she will be most if the way to 256 immediately. Also, the XP bonuses that the Genie mentioned. Is it 2% of the base XP added on and then another 2% of that total, or is it 4% of the base?

The genie does break immersion. When inread it i came across as a radio dj voice. Unless there is a reason anyone would speak in such a niche way i find it disruptive to continuity. Still liked the chapter, but i skipped the notifications almost entirely. I dont want this to come across harsh, im just voiceing something that rubbed me the wrong way.

Pallos was destroyed. And replaced with a world that happened to be exactly like pallos in every recognizable way and in exactly the same place such that nobody would notice a difference were it not for genie literally telling people about it.

Classes gain experience for doing stuff based on the class, so usually they get experience along with skills leveling up. But a skill leveling up does not necessitate experience for classes. Also, I'm pretty sure Auri is soaking up all the EXP until they reach similar levels?

She didn't, it's the base class that was automatically selected when the 3rd class was unlocked, it's why it doesn't have any skills
