Like many folks in my social feeds last week, I started watching the new The Sandman series on Netflix. Unlike most of the folks in my social feeds I haven't finished it yet (haha). My wife and I only watch one episode together a night (we're about halfway through, past The Sound of Her Wings episode--my favorite so far).
Gotta say, as a long-term Sandman fan, I'm really impressed with how closely they are mirroring the comics while simultaneously tweaking the narrative to fit the new media. I think the last time I was this impressed with a book-to-show adaption was Good Omens. Gaiman should be involved in all his adaptions! I also think it speaks volumes to him as a creator that he's unafraid not to adhere 100% to his original creation. It shows a lot of collaborative thoughtfulness. Plus, the show is absolutely beautiful. I hope the production crew is gaining a lot of accolades right now.
I went more comic series Dream than tv series Dream above, with two of my favorite Sandman artists, Mike Dringenberg and P. Craig Russell, in the back of my mind. And while I have a hard time picturing Morpheus wishing anyone a "Happy Monday", the sentiment is there and I hope everyone has a great start of the week today. :)
