Getting Ready 🌟

Following up from the last 2 illustrations, I was pretty inspired to work on the character side of things a bit more! It's definitely a departure from the usual more moody and cinematic tone, but a good way for me to gain a bit more perspective.

Drawing poses are surprisingly hard when you can't hide most of it in shadow! So on that end it was a pretty rigorous practice session as well. The shape of highlights and shadows really play a huge part in defining form as I found out.

Currently I'm working on another standalone more "movie poster" style piece that I hope to complete soon! That's gonna open up some time for another set of illustrations this month - (a record 3 posts?!)

Thank you so much as always for your warm support here on patreon, it means the world!

As always, the process videos will be up at end of month, and any questions are welcome below:)

It's also a bit of trial and error to find what seems to work the best!

Realistic artworks with a white background often pose a headache for beginners when it comes to capturing skin tones. However, I am very grateful for your different approach in answering this question.

Thank you! I'll be sure to share more about the linework during the process breakdown! :) But for now, I would say my focus is generally on drawing the forms and gesture accurately, with the lines accentuating important edges or where I feed need a bit more color. Overall, I'm very much learning about this more detached/line heavy visual style myself too!

I just get them from pinterest mostly and I just save what looks nice to me! Photo references are the best because they give the best possible reference point. Of course, at the end of the day there is a lot of selective information usage (e.g. only the gesture/only the lighting/only the costume design, etc plus mix and matching different references), and baseline understanding of form, so it's important to know that single references can't give all the answers.

References and a lot of meaningful observation go a long way! Thank you!

Thank you :P

Thank you! It took me a while to come up with that name as well - I didn't want something that's too edgy or dark (as the setting is already so dark!), so a bit of brightness is good :)

I am happy with that bit of visual-narrative I made with her, contrasting with a more carefree casual side is fun

Thank you!

Thank you for your appreciation!

It brings tears to my eyes to see them becoming more beautiful every day. I have a question! Are there any standards for setting boundaries when drawing characters? Those beautiful lines. I’m curious about your thoughts on organizing the lines!

What I love about your characters is how natural their poses look. Would you be okay sharing where you get your references? I bought a bunch of packs on cubebrush but almost all suffer from same issue, they're so bendy and exaggerated they make my characters look ridiculous. (Though they are good for gesture practice)

Very Cool! You really nailed the anatomy and poses in these pieces. The breakdown video will be very interesting. I cant wait to see your movie poster piece. Great work as always!
