Getting Ready 🌟
Added 2024-04-12 06:58:35 +0000 UTCFollowing up from the last 2 illustrations, I was pretty inspired to work on the character side of things a bit more! It's definitely a departure from the usual more moody and cinematic tone, but a good way for me to gain a bit more perspective.
Drawing poses are surprisingly hard when you can't hide most of it in shadow! So on that end it was a pretty rigorous practice session as well. The shape of highlights and shadows really play a huge part in defining form as I found out.
Currently I'm working on another standalone more "movie poster" style piece that I hope to complete soon! That's gonna open up some time for another set of illustrations this month - (a record 3 posts?!)

I'll be sure to share more about the linework during the process breakdown! :) But for now, I would say my focus is generally on drawing the forms and gesture accurately, with the lines accentuating important edges or where I feed need a bit more color. Overall, I'm very much learning about this more detached/line heavy visual style myself too!

2024-04-13 04:37:34 +0000 UTCI just get them from pinterest mostly and I just save what looks nice to me! Photo references are the best because they give the best possible reference point. Of course, at the end of the day there is a lot of selective information usage (e.g. only the gesture/only the lighting/only the costume design, etc plus mix and matching different references), and baseline understanding of form, so it's important to know that single references can't give all the answers.

I bought a bunch of packs on cubebrush but almost all suffer from same issue, they're so bendy and exaggerated they make my characters look ridiculous. (Though they are good for gesture practice)
