Patreon Video Series - EP02

For this month's video, the focus is on the initial parts of the drawing process, from rough sketch, to full color draft ready for cleaning up. Hopefully this will be helpful as a lot of comments and questions from last month, pertained to this early part of the process!

Hope you will enjoy, and please feel free to leave me feedback here in the comments. Stuff like volume, pacing, length or even alternate topic suggestions are all welcome.

Thank you for your support!

This post is perfect. Thank you

Hi, it's in the post description above! :)

GUWEIZ

Hi, can I have the DL link ? Love it !

Tonee

Hi, Can I have the link to DL the videos or Youtube link too?

Sent you a message :)

GUWEIZ

Hi, download link still available?

I'd also like a download link to all the videos, the processes are fantastic!

Sent you a message!

GUWEIZ

Hi, would it be possible to get a download of all your videos so far? Thank you in advance!

Usually very minimally as airbrush is my preference for removing excess edges; I do plan to do a video about using reference and such in the future!

GUWEIZ

do you use smudge tool for skin rendering? or it's just painting back and forth with a hard-edged brush, also would love to see how to use a good reference for the starting phase!

Sure, sent you a message!

GUWEIZ

Oh that's super nice! Can you send me a link to download this video?

Sent you a message!

GUWEIZ

I just got the youtube link for the 3rd. But could you also post the link for the 1st and 2nd? Thanks guweiz!

Sent you a message! :)

GUWEIZ

This is so insightful! Could I get the download link for this?

Thank you, usually I use smudge very sparingly, only at the very end of the process to remove any unwanted edges. Most of the time I find airbrush useful when smooth blends are needed.

GUWEIZ

Hi! These videos are amazing, it's awesome to see your process! I was wondering if you ever use the smudge/blend tool, or if you only ever blend colors by painting over each other? Thank you!

Thank you, please check your messages! :)

GUWEIZ

Hello, Guweiz. I'm Japanese and not goot at English, so i want to download and learn your painting videos. can I receive links to download all of videos? your painting is so cool.

Thank you very much, I'm glad you find the videos helpful! I've messaged you with the links :)

GUWEIZ

Hello GUWEIZ! I discovered your work just some weeks ago and I'm really happy to join your community of Patreons. I find your work with light and mood-setting especially great. I also like the pace of your videos very much so far and would like to receive the download links too. Thank you so much for sharing your process, I'm looking forward to seeing your future posts!

No problem, I sent you a message :)!

GUWEIZ

Hi Guweiz! can I have the link to download all of the process videos? Thank you!

Hello and welcome, I'm glad you find the videos helpful! These videos are once a month, every month here on Patreon only, and you can access all of them as they are now (there are 2 main videos so far with 1 Q&A video). You can message me if you would like download links. If it helps you can filter out the type of post you are looking for using the labels near the top of the page. Thank you!

GUWEIZ

Hello Guweiz, I am a new patreon, these video processes that I've seen so far have really helped me much more than a lot of the free content that is out there that really suites my pace in learning. Do you have a gumroad or a purchase link? I'd love to purchase more of these explained time lapses and videos if these are not often. If they are, how often do you post videos like this?

Sent you a message, feel free to directly message me next time :)

GUWEIZ

hey guweiz! can I have the link to download all of the process videos? thank you!

Santiago Venegas

Multiply is entirely focused on darkening the image so it has a larger range (it can darken an area to pure black) while soft light has a weak range but goes both ways (so it can both lighten and darken and is more flexible). I sent you a message for the links!

GUWEIZ

Sent you a message :)

GUWEIZ

Thanks for this video ! It's really helpful! When you use "multiply" and "soft light" layers, what's the difference between both? Also is it possible to see your videos offline? Thanks again !

Julie Martinez

Hello Guweiz, can I have both video links? Thank you.

I'm glad you find the perspective tool helpful! I do plan a proper video on that as well (or possible multiple), since it's a quite a hard topic to tackle :)

GUWEIZ

thank you so much for sharing once again! i've yet to try the brush that you've uploaded for us, but i've bought the perspective tool that you've recommended in the first video and it's been such great help for time efficiency! absolutely loved it, thank you! i would like to ask how do you come up with your ideas or compositions for your sketch? would you do a video of your thought process on how you composite an image in the future?

nez

Sent you a message :)

GUWEIZ

I see! That brush actually has quite a specific purpose I use it for, but it also doubles as a general purpose brush in this instance, so I used it casually to shade in some solid colors. It's a bit complicated to explain in short form, as it is more of a "technique" than workflow brush so I wanted to save it for a more technique-centered video in the future. (To explain quickly, it shades harder on one side than the other, allowing for each brushstroke to be dynamic when needed.)

GUWEIZ

Hello Guweiz, could i ask for a download link for the video so i could watch it offline? Thanks and great work ^^

Thanks for replying! You are right! But there is another brush you use as well, when you are colouring in for example in video (14:09), it's a different type of brush there, the shape is square, whereas the one you provided is more vertical shape. Would you mind explaining please the process for switching between these two brushes? Thank you!

I'm happy you enjoyed the video :) With regards to .psd file, there is a reason why I don't list it as part of the rewards. I personally feel trying to study pixels using .psd is not very helpful. For example, instead of trying to figure out exactly how I go from X stage to Y stage in this image down to the second, I think it is better if you practice it in your own work and try out your own methods. Only then it is possible to actually study your own process in depth to find strengths and areas to improve. (I am still doing these things myself) I hope you can understand my reasons.

GUWEIZ

Assuming I'm think of the right thing, I believe that is the brush I shared in the bonus video post :)

GUWEIZ

Great video Guweiz, thanks for the brush as well, although I noticed the brush you use for overall painting is a squarish looking style brush, is this something you think you will also be able to share with us please? I know what you mean about the basic round brush but I find that it just makes everything look way too clean. Thank you!!

Great, thank you ! Guweiz, can you post the psd file ? to see more in depth and studie the process ? that would really help a lot.. if you can't can you send me in private 2/3psd of the projects already on the patreon to studie please ? thanks, great work and art !

Glaiyn

I sent you a message, feel free to directly message me next time, thank you!

GUWEIZ

I sent you a message, feel free to directly message me next time, thank you!

GUWEIZ

Hey Guweiz! I'm wondering if there's any links for downloading the videos so that I can watch it offline as well? Thnks!

Hello Mr Guweiz, I cannot play the video. Could You share any other link please ? Thank you!

Very useful material, it was quite insightful! The frequent zooming in and out can be a little heavy on the eyes, I wish there was a way to make it less annoying.

I sent you a message :) (In the future, feel free to message me directly!)

GUWEIZ

Hi Guweiz, thank you for sharing your process and tips ! It's really big help . Also, could I ask you for getting download link if possible? Thank you so much !

Sena

Sure, sent you a message!

GUWEIZ

I paint under the sketch lines until I feel they are getting in the way, then I paint over them, I never actually turn the sketch layer off (it eventually does get completely covered).

GUWEIZ

Yes, there are no unrecorded gaps in this video! What you see is what I did :)

GUWEIZ

Hi! Guweiz I noticed that you first painted the base colors as if they were illuminated by a white light and then added the light and temperature variations, am I correct?

Thank you so much for another insightful video! Fixing the composition during the early stages is really something I'm building patience for right now, so I'm very thankful to hear your early process! I'm curious if you paint over the sketch lines, or if you turn off the sketch layer completely and continue to refine from there?

Jin

Hi Guweiz, I was wondering if I could have a download link for this if possible? Thanks again for sharing your process.
