“Everything happens for a reason”
These words have become empty
Regurgitated and lifeless and hollow
They hang in the air
As a trite and tired consolation prize
Their repetition has wearied me
Yet without them I can’t seem to rest
And when I actually stop to consider
Why I once believed them in the first place
Why I walk forward
Bloodied and bruised
But blindly certain
I’m met with the reminder
That the path unfolds beneath my feet
With every step I take
Every happening
No matter how large or small
All the good and bad
Every win and downfall
Endless happy and sad
Each cakewalk and close call
It’s there because it is
Everything does happen for a reason
The reason is in the reality
We want answers
But the answer and the question are one in the same
We are watching it show itself to us
In slow motion
Fate is a promise
That is kept in every moment
