I am the law!

Hi everyone. Hope your friday is going well. Progress continues, with the coding work having now started on the new quest. I've thrown a spoiler tag on today's post, although it's only for a new character model, so if you don't mind that, you're free to read on.

I'll shortly be polling the school council on what else you'd like to see go into this update. Can't promise there'll be a huge amount of side content as once again, the quest has ended up being huge! There's a definite creep in the size of content I'm adding to these quests, as you may recall on Monday, I compared this quest with Abbie's and Lola's, which only have a few scenes each. This will have a number closer to the other recent quests, which have upwards of a dozen.

The thin red line

Anyway, as I said, today I would like to show off the latest character model to join our menagerie. The character herself isn't new, but up until now has used placeholder assets. In this story, she'll be briefly appearing in rendered form, so here is the Captain of the Sapphory City Guard, Miss Audrey Elysee!

It probably shouldn't surprise anyone that a story centered on a girl as poorly behaved as Jess would end up featuring guards at some point. For those of you struggling to place her in the story, we last encountered Captain Elysee properly (other than a small appearance in Madeline's story if you decide to turn her in,) during the tumultuous events of the third chapter. Elysee sends Missy to infiltrate the Pussy Pit, and ultimately has to lead a daring raid on the slaver base to "free" her.

The scene between Elysee and Renée in the "good" ending to that chapter remains one of my favourite dialogues in the game, as the two exchange taunts as Renée's ship leaves. For now, Missy's mother(s) are not in the frame though, so she'll have a different role in this story.

The role of Guard Captain in the capital is one of the most important and politically sensitive in Sapphory. Beneath even minor Nobles, it therefore falls to a commoner, and is thus one of the most powerful positions an ordinary Sapphorian woman can aspire to. On top of that, Captain Elysee took the role under a cloud as her predecessor was forced into early retirement following the failure of the guards to detect Renée and Ezra's organisation operating in the capital. She has her work cut out.

Captain Elysee and her girls are responsible for maintaining peace and order in the capital, though they do not have responsibility for the palace, as this duty falls to the Royal Guards, who draw their numbers from the Town Guards, but operate separately, while the personal security of the Princess herself is handled by the Erinyes. (Think of them as being like the Secret Service, only much, much scarier and more powerful.)

Nonetheless, it's a huge responsibility, and one for which the Captain had to be carefully vetted by the Ministry of Justice, then personally approved by the Princess. She has been tasked not only with keeping the peace in the largest and most important Sapphorian city, but also redeeming her organisation in the eyes of the Nobility by capturing or killing Missy's mothers.

Elysee will be popping in and out of the story as it progresses, and so now she finally has a proper character model. Hope you like her!

I don't know why, Missy's mothers seem like great people.
