The Colonel Reduced - June 2025

It's still June.

Regular viewers will know that I've be waging war with my recording facilities for the last couple of months. Casualties of this conflict have included recording schedules, unpublished videos, recording software... ... turns out that criminal number 1 was not my recording software. It was SOMETHING ELSE.

What? Still unknown.

However since recording this I've updated all recording codecs, I've run disk checking wizardry, and that should at least help, but I suspect something else is to blame. That something is, by my estimation, graphics card, PSU or amount of bloat that has accumulated in my system since the last purge.

All easily resolved when I have time. I don't have time. Anyway, even with the big section of this video being corrupt so badly that even Handbrake couldn't save it, the audio could be extracted, so that makes the disk drive less of a candidate for revolutionary re-education. So, salvage complete, enjoy this radio edition of the show.

Also, no, these problems did not contribute to the late arrival of this month's Reduced. That would be me and my excellent time management skills.

Comments

I reiterated the point a couple of times, but the takeaway (aside from us all being LLMs) is that it is the constraints we have as individuals that make for more "creativity". Excessive training, I believe, erodes nuance and personality from the end result. It may be smarter to be more broadly trained, but in creative work it doesn't necessarily make the result more unique. Maybe some paralisis from excess referencing? I don't know. Anyway, I don't use GPT to come up with ideas, but where it's supremely helpful is in ensuring those ideas have enough fresh combinational thought, and how they tie into the broader fiction of the Dozerverse. GPT's my buddy.

Listened all the way to the end (although I skipped a few bits here and there in the middle)... and I heard something BRILLIANT -- near the end, we discover that The Colonel (and, by extension, everyone on the planet) is an LLM. ME, too. That will change the way I think about things, including changing the way I think about thinking about things. That, ladies and gents, is absolutely worth the price of admission to this Patreon thingy. So, Thanks, Colonel! I think.
