The Jak Trilogy Analysis Commentary

A blast from the past, we're revisiting my Jak Analysis, I offer some memories of making the video as well as some current thoughts on Jak today. Much easier to do one of these on a video I made a year ago than one that happened... well... much longer ago.

Hope you enjoy!

The Jak Trilogy Analysis Commentary

As an American who grew up with these games as they were coming out, I can certainly say there felt like a world of difference between the maturity of Jak and Uncharted despite the shared rating, as if there's an invisible "soft" and "hard" T rating that PEGI ratings make more apparent. The ESRB's E10+ seems to have been to alleviate this in the early days when it was given to games like Shadow the Hedgehog '05 but nowadays it's used for arbitrary stuff like separating Kirby as "more mature" than other Nintendo games... Perhaps the board considers Kirby a cannibal?

I will defend Shadow The Hedgehog till my last breath. I find the edginess endearing, and it's so much fun. Though some levels are admittedly awful.

I guess "anime" looking games tend to be like that, but I haven't seen much in that space I've been interested in trying myself lately.

I think back a lot to my childhood with a lot of those “young teen games” and really miss that kind of stuff being made. Part of why I think Hi-fi rush landed so well for me is it reminds me a lot of the Jak, Sly, and early Ratchet games in its vibe
