(The Other) Blood+ for PS2 - Backlog with Brit

In 2006 2 PS2 games based on the anime Blood+ came out, I reviewed one of them years ago on the channel... and now... here's the other one. This one wasn't made by Suda51 though so expect something a little more conventional. Either way it's another PS2 action game to try out.

Expect some more Patreon content in the next few days while I work on the next big project. Update coming before the end of the month too.

Do you know... anything about Blood+? I don't know much and yet I know more than most now lol

(The Other) Blood+ for PS2 - Backlog with Brit

PS2 feels like the last time production was fast enough to get these kind of simultaneous releases to compare. Though these days I can't even imagine an anime getting a game tie-in that isn't some quick-job arena fighter.

I think I remember her doing the blood into the sword thing in the Suda game. When I watched some of the show it didn't compel me all that much to finish it, maybe if I was younger I would have gotten into, but I don't remember finding any of the characters super compelling or that I was stoked about going on some 50 episode adventure with any of them.

It's strange both games were just set in Japan. You talked about these superpowered teens still goin' to school, but I think Saya actually leaves the country only a handful of episodes in and spends most of the series travelling in the anime. Iirc the first ting that happens is she goes to Vietnam and has flashbacks to when she fought vampires in the Vietnam war, lol. I guess that wasn't in the cards for quick tie-in games. I suppose blood wasn't on the table either for a game with this rating or something? Which is a bit of handicap for a vampire game. It's funny these vampires are leaking like jewels instead of blood. Saya is supposed to cut her hand with her own sword to get some of her blood flowing into that groove of the sword since that's effective against these guys. She sort of takes that pose for one of her finishing moves, but obviously that's not happening either. I have some nostalgia for Blood + from back in the day. I wouldn't say it was anything special, but at like 16, I thought it was alright. I rarely hear anyone talking about it though, so I have to wonder how well it did. These days I think it'd mostly be novel because the action is _relatively_ grounded and restrained. Saya wasn't doing spinny flips with her sword or anything, and most of the enemies were stock vampire monsters, nothing crazy. It also lasted a whopping 50 episodes - too many, if I remember right, but that was the trend at the time so what can you do. There have been some more installments in the Blood franchise, but I'm not that familiar. The glimpse I caught of Blood-C was much more stylized and involved giant rabbits pounding humans into paste with hammers like they were making mochi. Looked like it got pretty wacky.

I totally forgot about this other Blood+ game, the juxtaposition between the Grasshopper game and this is night & day. Its kinda cool in that sense.
