luffy basically takes Ideas for his new moves from the new surroundings he faces. like, back in arlong park, he got his inspiration from village leader's fan/hat for his spin move. The gears and the steams are influenced by the steam engines. and, ya seeing CP9, he kinda learned from their moves too. so there's a lot more moves to come as there are more journeys to go as well.

I agree on that last part. Even some of Luffy's lines enhanced that statement, such as during Arlong arc where he said "I can't cook, can't use sword properly, can't navigate and can't even lie." To me that just shows that this isn't a one-man-show.

Alrighty! I'ma go get some tissues in preparation for the rest of the arc - anyone want me to pick some up for them?

Amlet

aw man now i caught up to your recent reaction lmao.

MadSwag

I am just laughing right now at how oblivious I am. I am a huge One Piece fan for years now, and I never thought about him having Zoro as his right hand is perfect to deal with his greatest weakness. Its so obvious lol

Grady

luffys power ups arent just straight buffs in power AJ

Matthew

AJ, just a heads-up, 279-283 are just fillers and can be skipped

Lucas Prestes

He learned from the six powers, but its not really the same. The six powers users seem to focus too hard on their pride of knowing them, and forget that real skills can be much more varied.

Tim White

273 and 274 are back to back epic moments.

I agree man, One Piece is great with dividing the action among the characters. Luffy said it best early on, back against Arlong. "I can't cook, I can't navigate, I don't know how to use swords. Without my friends to help me, I'd be dead a long time ago" (Remember that swords and other bladed weapons are technically Luffy's biggest weakness. Having Zoro, a swordsman, as his first mate to cover that weakness and fight the enemy swordsmen shows how great this crew set up can be.) But what he CAN do is be the best physical fighter, to occupy the enemy's best fighter while his crew takes care of everything else

Weirdly enough you seee the beginnings of the Gear Second during the Movie 7.. He accidentally does it while fighting the antagonist at the end... Not sure why they couldn't have done that during canon episodes though.. Oh well.

DarkPirateKing

There's gonna be a LOT of information in the next 4 episodes. It would be great if you did them all in one go, but 2 and 2 will also work out if you need time to absorb the information.

hurryupmode

The emotions episodes that are coming have given me huge tears every fcking time i watch them *_*

god theres never not a time when i DONT cry at robins "i just want to die!" and another scene in probably the next episode which is very big....like its just so fucking SAD and her voice actress really, really sells those emotions ;__;

Jabra (wolf guy) is nearly as strong as Kaku (rectangle nose guy) if you remember the power levels! SO they're definitely not weak. There are also clearly expectations as to the strength you need to have to enter CP9. Anyways, enjoy what is one of the best climaxes of the series!!

Guillaume Feuvrier

It should also be mentioned that Luffy's "Gears" are not straight power-ups, there are downsides to using them.

[No Spoiler] As its stated in the Manga at this point like Rob Lucci said, its not about a bad or good power but about using the power to the max which luffy does by abusing the "rubber" mechanic for his cardio vascular system (unable to perforate due to beeing rubber) and pumping his bloodpressure and heart rate to insane unhuman levels to improve his physical performance ! its so smart ! But yeah Luffy is basicly cheating this way to acheive the "shave" techqniue speed. Also Luffy got a few of his tools early on his trip when fighting captain black aka captain kuro (the cat guy) as he learned to adopt to shave then (captain blacks cat walk is basicly shave).
