Im here again, for this one thx for the reactions Aaron! Maybe you should try '12.12 the day' released five months ago, and it was a huuuuuuge success in Korea. This one is also based on true history, but more intense, because it's treating about military coup

Most of the scenes were composed through footage actually captured by his camera. For example, scenes where large crowds of Gwangju citizens cheer at Hinzpeter, offering him food, or scenes where innocent civilians are indiscriminately stabbed by soldiers, shot at, and massacred. There are also scenes of journalists being stopped while trying to print articles about the current situation, situations where there are not enough coffins due to the high number of deaths, and people crying in front of coffins. Hinzpeter said he shed endless tears during this time, finding it too painful to continue filming, just like in the moive "The movie is inspired by the story of the late German journalist Jürgen Hinzpeter, who revealed the true situation of Gwangju to the world, and Mr. Kim is the taxi driver who drove Jürgen Hinzpeter, the German journalist known as the 'blue-eyed witness,' back and forth between Seoul and Gwangju twice during the May 18 Democratic Uprising. Mr. Kim Sa-bok’s son, Seung-pil, mentioned, "My father, who had cirrhosis, drank a lot after returning from Gwangju, and his health worsened, leading to his death from cancer in 1984."

The 5.18 Gwangju Democratization Movement, 1980, the historical event this movie covers, is considered one of the most tragic political events in South Korea, with the highest casualty rate since the Korean War. I'm actually a student at the university in Gwangju, the place where was a major site of the movement and where many students participated. If I had been born 40 years earlier, I might have been protesting with them. But honestly, until watching this movie with you, my knowledge was limited to just the name of the incident. Thanks for showing me this film and watching with me! I looked up on the internet and learned many things
