Fix Your Heart - The Return Episode 4

Some familiar faces, some new faces, and Dougie antics

Fix Your Heart - The Return Episode 4

Comments

That Wally Brando scene alone makes this episode a classic, loved seeing your face when you saw who it was.

Toni Scandella

Lucy and Andy are really important this season, and that's all im saying

Toni Scandella

Just my thoughts; but I disagree about they dumbing down Lucy (I don't think they did); She has One flaw, which is not understanding mobile communication, which they Did mention briefly in another episode...

Erik Lundmark

Alex has expressed interest, fingers crossed

Milton Reduxed

If you react to the X-Files, I'm in! =)

"You can't cheat at slots," - you can, if you're the casino. This is nothing to do with Twin Peaks but one of the cool things about machine board emulation is that it revealed with actual proof that slot machines cheat the player. At points where things could go one of two ways they were programmed to make the player lose whichever decision they made.

There's a thematic element that I think explains why Dougiecooper is how he is, beyond the plot-driven reason that will be revealed later. However, revealing that thematic element now would also be a spoiler, so I won't do it. Just rest assured that there *are* reasons why Dougiecooper is the way he is, and it's worth sticking with him. 🙂

What do you think of Bobby the hero? His dad predicted this for him.

Steve Owen

I will say after 3&4 I get back on board. I just watched one of my favorite episodes so far. Growing pains are normal with tv shows and I trusted it to come back around :)

Alexandra Wells

Her character and her story feels so real. FWWM really left its mark

Alexandra Wells

It brought me so much joy

Since you're getting a bunch of comments I'll just say that the Return is fantastic. On my first watch I was like you a bit confused and wondering on lots of things, and didn't completely feel it. But as it went on lots of things stuck out to me, even if I didn't fully understand them. But things stuck out in my mind. I went back to it a year or so later and appreciated it more on the rewatch. I now see it as a masterpiece, it's IMO clearly superior to the old TV show, much deeper, ties up the lore well and introduces new things that are great. It can't exist without the old show, but it doesn't linger in how writers and creators felt 25 years ago either. The show has moved on cause time has moved on. Something about how you can always go back, but you can never go back. I love Lynch, seen all of his works many times. For film, his master work was Mulholland Drive. Really that movie was the culmination of everything he'd been working towards as a filmmaker. The Return is his master work in television. I couldn't pick which one is better, Mulholland or The Return. The Return embraces the format of TV, some like myself view it as a long-form movie. Mulholland feels now like a shortened version of a similar sort of material. I see them now as sister projects, they explore many similar themes, feelings and concepts but in different ways. They both come after Lynch was older and learned from his earlier works. All works that were great, but these were his best. There's so much to say about them, but I'll leave it at that. I hope at the end you're just as intrigued and wanting to revisit the material again on your own time.

I bought that book, but I stopped reading it after a few of the dossiers. Take it with a grain of salt; some of those chapters are best left without finality.

And Old Friend of the Christie's.

For all we know, that case could have been settled long ago!

And Old Friend of the Christie's.

Wally was dressed as Marlon Brando’s character in the Wild Ones. Such a great scene. I think you were as proud listening to his monologue as Lucy

The whole Dougie thing in really interesting because how does Dale Cooper be in the world when there is two of him? His shadow self and this other part, now we seeing as Dougie Jones. For him to be in the world he needs his evil Dale and good Dale to be as one so he is actually himself and not this Dougie shell he is in. Which also makes me think about Mr C that although I see him as the evil Dale Cooper personality in this world also has the entity of Bob with him as we saw at end of season two. The other thing I picked up from part 2 of this is the call that Mr C and Phillip Jeffries had in that motel room, it seems that the Philip says Mr C is going back in tomorrow and Phillip says "and I will be with Bob again..." which I never remember picking up before until I watched it again. So in sometime, Bob has been with Phillip Jeffries. When we do not know, is that before Bob was with Leland? The whole Philip Jeffries stuff is so weird as the only time we seen him before was in Fire Walk With Me for a few minutes and then he is gone again. Then we see more about him in the Missing Pieces stuff that was not in the actual movie release of Fire Walk With Me.

I think the character Bill was some famous actor from the 60's and 70's. Maybe it was Richard Chamberlain. I think I remember him in some tv mini-series when I was a kid in the 1980's. I think the tv series was called Thorn Birds. I remember him being some kind of priest in that.

Shaundgb

Also regarding your frustrations with the whole Dougie thing - I felt the exact same way the first time I watched. Now I actually really enjoy him.

st0iccc

Cooper's interaction with his apparent acquaintance at the beginning always has me almost tearing up - somebody please help this man :/

st0iccc

This is one of my favorite episodes of the whole series honestly

Samuel

Yeah, Bobby killed somebody, but it was in self-defense...

Jimmie V

This episode holds many emotional moments as we finally get to see Doug's family, Denise, Harry's brother, Bobby, Wally, and of course Chad ;) However, Bobby's scene with Laura's picture and her theme playing is truly redeeming and powerful as it brings back the memories and emotions reminding us of why we fell in love with Twin Peaks in the first place. It gives hope that the focus of the future plot will be more on the characters of Twin Peaks. On another note, the casting this season is remarkable. The amount of actors interested to take part was insane. We have seen some, but more is to come :-)

Ellis Kay

When you finish The Return read / listen to Twin Peaks the final dossier as this will answer a lot of questions about what had happened to different Twin Peaks characters.

Ben Abel

That is awesome to see on the big screen. I have only seen it by online streaming, so I am jealous.

Shaundgb

I like that you’re keeping this viewing experience pure. This season is a different vibe for sure. You’re going to have a fun time googling everything afterwards too. It’s a lot and all-encompassing (just like the show itself!) but it’s really where I started to appreciate the series, and what it was going for, as a whole. So much to uncover!

Matthew McClain

Once you've watched FWWM every rewatch of S1 (and the good first 3rd of S2) in particular hits different, because you've so much more of Laura in every single scene.

Jamie

It's a fine line between telling people how to watch a show and and spoiling (neither of which I would want to do even implicitly) and just discussion. But I just wanted to say that I when I first watched this season spent much of it frustrated. It was only on the second viewing that I saw it as the best season in the show. And I think that showed when I stopped looking for season 2, and stopped looking for Twin Peaks even, and started appreciating especially all the new characters and the humanity in them. And I wished then that I had watched it that way the first time. But then again, I don't know if I could have, or even if I should have. It is definitely the strongest rewatch out of all the seasons, I can say that for sure.

Not being able to pee for 25 years... Kyle projected the joy of that release right into our homes lol

And Old Friend of the Christie's.

And HUGE thanks to David for giving Naomi her shot in Hollywood, after 10 years of her trying so hard to break through, which makes Mulholland Drive mean a helluva lot more, after knowing her own struggle. In 2022, Watts said that she was told to get as much acting in, as possible, before turning 40, because she'd be "un-eff-able" afterwards. Tell that to directors like Lynch, who value experience and maturity. I don't idolize any one Hollywood celebrity, but I do have respect for what a lot of them put themselves through... Tim Curry has a really interesting story about his break. He'd been at it for years, too, and never once took his opportunities for granted.

And Old Friend of the Christie's.

Michael Ontkean apparently moved to Hawaii, leaving his home, in Canada, to improve his health. Had Michael and David had a falling out, the chances of Harry S. Truman being discarded, completely, would have been MUCH higher. Apparently, Michael and David thought so highly of one another, that Harry's arc was included, to pay respect to the character and Michael himself. Ontkean had even found the jacket he used to wear, apparently, and wanted badly to do the show, but his health took him away from it. I know that he and Kyle hit it off as friends, immediately, which really boosted the chemistry, on screen. Regardless, I immediately liked Frank Truman. Robert Forster has always been known to be one of the most reliable, hard-working guys in Hollywood, someone who Tarantino and Lynch both adored.

And Old Friend of the Christie's.

Metric would fit in so well here! Every time you talk about Meadow, even I get concerned! There's nothing more important to me, in this world, than animals. As long as they're okay, I'm okay! I'm thinking you can totally relate. So, there's something really beautiful happening in this grand return to this series, something that maybe should've never happened. Showtime offered David and Mark nine episodes, then reapproached them for 18, and it's all a blessing! Michael Cera met David at a meditation class, they had good conversation, and apparently, it went from there. It's so painstakingly awkward that I die laughing the whole time, during that scene!

And Old Friend of the Christie's.

That moment where Bobby sees the picture of Laura is kind of peculiar. Up until now we've had very little sentimentality and nostalgia, but suddenly her music theme (first time we hear it in season 3) swells, and Bobby gets VERY emotional... It's all out of the blue, and sort of a heightened reality. It's almost like Lynch is saying "Yeah I know this season is very different, but I haven't forgotten what you loved about Twin Peaks in the first place... Here's a lil' taste, but that's all you get for now!"

Gaute Hjartåker

my local theater is doing screenings of the return this month! i still haven’t finished it so it’ll be great to experience it on the big screen & then come back to these!

diego martinez

So many Twin Peaks cast members died right around the time Season 3 originally aired. I won't list them because I suppose that could be considered spoiler-ish. I hope this isn't a spoiler, but Michael Ontkean (Harry) is still very much alive -- but he retired in 2011 and after initially considering coming back to the series, he decided , in the end, not to. This is my fourth time watching Season 3, and every time I watch it, I love Tammy more and more! Ditto Naomi Watts as Dougie's wife! Lynch was trying to subvert nostalgic expectations, hence the wildly different vibe (for the most part) than the original first two seasons. IMO, it really pays off!

Biff McKeldin

I think I recommended The Secret History on the last episode? It gives a lot of backstory on Major Briggs and Frank Truman. It’s basically Frost rewriting the story of the first two seasons while tying the town into a wider history of supernatural and paranormal America and slightly tweaking things to match The Return. For reacting it’s probably better to wait until you’ve finished the season but it doesn’t spoil anything. Janey-E is the best.

Jacob King

Dougie antics ftw 😂

TylerNorCal

I have it pretty good now! but I have a few more episodes filmed before I perfected it

Alexandra Wells

this episode is when I knew I was watching something very special! something that almost should not exist! tip: do not try to predict to much or even anything at all if possible! just let it flow! it should help to be less frustrating for your first watch! your reactions are awesome! your camera work was perfect!🍩🤩👍

P.M.Télé

“Fix your hearts or die.” I loved Lynch and Frost for that line. I even have it on a button. The fact that it’s become a rally cry for a lot of people who haven’t even seen the show is incredible. Bobby reacting to Laura’s picture always makes me a bit choked up. As for how they have been treating Lucy, if you recall from the missing pieces, she has a hard time understanding the idea of the intercoms as well, so I think it’s just supposed to be a continuation of that joke. And on a technical level, your camera looks fine. Though I don’t know your setup, but it might be better for maintaining focus if you turn off auto focus and switch to manual. That’s if you’re able to do that or not of course. Either way, the video looked nice and clear!
