Dubbing sucks, subtitles all the way!

Pssssssssssssssst. Where's True Blood for this Tuesday

I'd go with always subtitles except for rare occasions which really only applies to certain Italian films. Cemetery Man for example. You definitely want Rupert Everett's real voice. The New York Ripper also has a quirk that I think is best experienced in English. Many films (including this one and most from Mexico) don't have English tracks at all.

I love the music in this film. It's dark, but so many lessons learned... so much learned to shape our own lives. Ewan McGregor got George Lucas' attention to play young Obi-Wan, mostly because of this film. Ewan has the right sort of charm. The second one... absolutely watch it, as soon as you have the chance! It was the sequel that we never thought would happen, but it's beautiful... so beautiful. Danny Boyle, as far as director's go, is WAY up there, for me, with David Lynch. They don't follow any particular style. When you see one of their films, you just KNOW whose work you're seeing!

And Old Friend of the Christie's.

When my pets are sick, I need a lot of help to stay focused and calm. I understand how it feels, completely! I hope your pup stays healthy!

Thoroughly enjoyed this one which I only knew about from tumblr gifs. The obscuring of adult faces was a really cool concept. A film with a similar vibe is Valerie and Her Week of Wonders (1970) it has witches and vampires but the real villain is puberty. Subtitles nearly always.

I hate dubbing. I want to hear the real actors voice so subtitles is the only option for me. So had to give it a miss once I found it was going to be dubbing.

Glad you liked this! I don't think sweet Hippie was ever in danger. Veronica just coveted Flavia's riches and she was thinking Hippie could be her familiar in place of a black cat. 😆 But you mess with pets and things get ugly. Witch horror is always a favorite and this brings the interesting twist of a toxic relationship built upon child wonderment gone amuck. Even with the lies and manipulation, I think Veronica actually believed she was a witch. If not at first, then definitely after the piano teacher. Unfortunately for her, Flavia certainly did. Use the power of imagination as a weapon and belief can become one too. I love that B&W opening contrast with the red blood. Carlos Enrique Taboada made a few terrific genre films and this was his last. I think Guillermo Del Toro (who I personally am not a fan of) was inspired by his work.

I would say go for subtitles over dubs. I get people don't like having to read the whole time, but I find voice overs far more distracting.

When you take someone's dog, you've crossed the line and there's going to be serious consequences. Whether Veronica was a witch or not became a moot point to Flavia.😉😅
