The reason vegeta didnt die here is because in Z, the small stars Boo see infront of him is vegetas life force energy meaning he used that to gain more power. With ssj blue that helps with both ki control and incredible power he did not have to mix in his life force energy to gain that big of a blast.

My theory on Vegeta surviving the Final Explosion is twofold. 1) He chose to sacrifice himself when he fought Buu but that wasn't his goal here. 2) Vegeta's ki control in general is much more precise, probably from how ridiculous it must be for a mortal to attain and control the ki of Gods.
