Hi folks,
Gonna keep it short this week. As you know, we had a setback with being unable to render scene 4 on my rig, which has since been resolved.
After chatting with Stoya, testing on Hank's rig and discussing the issue with Puggy, I found out it was a matter of going through the scene and instancing a bunch of items I had duplicated instead. This resolved a huge amount of geometry and textures and got the file size down dramatically (51 gig to under 28). It's something I now know to take care to do, but when I started the environment had no clue about. It is resolved, and while this week was more about getting that fixed we are now back on track with only a few days lost instead of being completely unable to finish. I consider that a win.
I moved forward and mostly finished scene 5 while fixing the environment for scene 4. Once Puggy gets his animations in there I think it's gonna be killer. I'm pretty sure a lot of you are gonna dig it.
Puggy finished the biggest (in terms of people count and length) animation this week and I've gotten the file and am going to try and render it out today. This is one of the bottlenecks that we hope to fix as we gain more support. Right now my rig is just better for us to render his animations on, but Blender sucks up all the VRAM on my rig and keeps me from using Daz at all. So, rendering the anims stops me in my tracks completely. One of our first goals is to get Puggy a better rig so he can start rendering them on his end.
So, most of the work has been in writing and rendering scene 5 and fixing scene 4. Scene 4 continues to balloon as I find more ways to fill in some backstory and flesh out the characters more. At this point, all of the main girls have had at least one meaningful interaction with the MC, allowing you to get a taste of their personalities before the more meaningful interactions later in the chapter, which I feel is an important part of a first chapter. Chapters 2 and 3 will probably be a bit more focused on introducing the hard sides as you interact with the mains a bit more, so you now have an idea of how quickly things will open up.
I think that's about it for this week. I've got a busy weekend ahead. I'll do my best to get the Random Render done for this Sunday, but please understand if it's a day or two late. Right now, I think it's more important to try and get back on track with the game.
Enjoy your weekend, folks! And thank you for your continued support!
