I've read so many stories that tackle the theme of "violence", but I've never seen a story portray it from the angle of apathy. The world back then was so harsh, people became indifferent to killing. The show isn't at any point telling you violence is evil. Violence was a byproduct of people who were born into a world so brutal, they don't know anything else. Bjorn said he didn't hold a grudge to someone who would wound him on the battlefield, because that's just the way things were. And that is so fucking sad.
