Kyo was awoken by the sound of shattering glass. She quickly jumped out of bed and linked with the mansion’s plants. Intruders were using invisibility magic, but it didn’t hide their body heat. She reached out through the Veil ready to defend her home. Felix had a fancier name for the space within her control, but she preferred her own term. As she made her way through the dark hallways, she could hear the sounds of multiple intruders moving through the mansion.
Kyo's heart pounded in her chest as she approached the kitchen, where she saw several masked figures rifling through her cabinets. Without hesitation, Kyo snapped her finger loudly, her minor noise hidden under the sound of falling pots and pans. There was the sound of bodies falling in the dim light luminescence of the mansion’s plant lighting.
The invaders looked at the collapsed bodies of their fallen fighters. The dead enemy heads had been severed by a perfect bisecting cut and blood pooled where they lay. Several of the attackers were taken aback by Kyo's sudden strike, but they quickly recovered and drew their own weapons.
The entire enemy force was eerily silent.
Kyo was outnumbered and outmatched by the unobserved eye, but she had been fighting in the Training Dungeon constantly. Her attacks were refined in battle with things that didn’t care about fair play or honor. She dodged and weaved around the enemies avoiding their attacks, and striking back whenever she saw an opening. Her exposed furry pink ears were dyed crimson, and her clothing gained a maroon hue. The battle raged on for what felt like hours, but Kyo refused to back down. She was determined to protect her home and her lab!
With each strike of her Space Slice, she felt her resolve grow stronger. These people are not Were, they do not regenerate. They are fighting strangely too, almost as if they do not want to harm me. Kidnappers, perhaps?
Finally, after what felt like an eternity, Kyo emerged victorious. The invaders lay defeated on the ground, their weapons scattered around them. A copious number of vines had started to clean up the pooling blood and remove bodies. Kyo breathed a sigh of relief, knowing that she had saved her home from another attempt to kidnap or kill her.
But her victory was short-lived. As she reached out to scan the space around the room, Kyo realized that the invaders had not come alone. They had brought with them a powerful sorcerer, who now stood before her, a wicked smile on his face. They had clearly taken precautions against space magic!
"You may have defeated the Pasha’s minions," he sneered, "but you will never defeat me."
Kyo's heart thumped and her mood sank as she recognized the sorcerer's dark aura. There were creatures in the Training Dungeon that had the same tingly feeling. The sorcerer laughed and raised his hands, calling forth a wave of dark energy. Kyo braced herself, but at the last moment, a burst of light flooded the room. The sorcerer screamed in pain as the light engulfed him, and then he was gone, vanishing into thin air.
“Sending something like that into my domain, idiocy!” Felix said with a haughty tone as the blue demon crystal floated in on the same brick her bonsai friend was on.
Kyo blinked in surprise, wondering what had just happened. Then she noticed a figure standing in the corner of the room, a young woman with long, flowing silver hair and a bright smile. Her eyes were hidden by glasses but she didn’t feel threatened.
"Who are you?" Kyo asked, her nerves still jittery with a Space Slice still at the ready.
"I am, Nota." the woman replied. "You did splendid, Kyo. That last threat was just a bit above the threshold we were willing to allow so Felix banished them to the more challenging part of the Training Dungeon." The woman's eyes glinted with malice briefly before her gaze warmed.
Kyo felt a surge of pride and excitement at Nota’s words. She finally felt all the brutal training and anti-food antics of the evil blue crystal were worth it. However, I’m still mixing the crystalline poison for Test Subject One. Just because I feel accomplished is no reason to let the blue demon off free from pain and suffering!
It would just be a few more months to get the proportions right, then revenge would be within Kyo’s grasp!
“Is it that time already?” Felix said with a morose tone.
“Indeed. Now buzz off you floating space hazard!” Nota said without mercy.
Kyo watched as Felix flickered and vanished. She reached out as if grasping for a piece of bacon and said, “M-My revenge!” Tears formed in her eyes as Nota sped over and swept her up in a hug.
“Don’t worry little one. Revenge is a dish best served cold like twice fried meat.” Nota said sagely.
Kyo’s eyes sparkled as she said, “Twice fried?!”
