She made choices that ended the MC's relationship with her and now, the MC has moved on and built a new life for himself. She has to accept that, but she also is now free to make her own choices too. This is how I see it personally.

Love seeing the progress and wondering what the occasion is; perhaps New Years? Glad we get to meet MC's first love, and we have the option of pursuing if we choose. I bet she won't let him get away twice when on her path.
