This content obviously doesn't lend itself very much to laughing at what the other person is saying. I'm a cashier, and one time, the guy behind the girl I was ringing up was very clearly hitting on her and she was not having it, like one word responses, and short answers. Obviously there's nuance to it, such as if you've told them you're not interested and they persist, then that's cringe.

Maybe I'm oblivious, but when a girl I'm talking to says they have a boyfriend, I don't think of it as respecting him and thinking of the girl as his 'property' to say. I just take the girl saying they have a boyfriend as a cut and dry 'I'm not interested' and they were probably just being nice, so the best thing to do is say 'nice talking to ya' and move on. Just to give a different perspective.
