(early access) We've Had ENOUGH Sex and the City| A Mini-Take

Content Warning:  I included the scenes featuring transphobic and biphobic language from the show in full context, because I think it is important to understand exactly how the show spoke about it and basically did not care.

Time stamps for the language are included at the beginning so you can skip it xx P

Just want to say that, in addition to making a compelling argument about reboots (+ critique of hollywood), I think what you're doing in this video is really important and brings a lot of depth and nuance to public discourse about pop culture and media. I love how you think through the complexities of loving something without pretending like it's perfect or static OR wanting it to continue indefinitely (!!!). It is a great example of demonstrating actual judgment and people need to hear this kind of commentary. Thank you! -Adi

For me the final nail in the coffin was movie 3 when Samantha said "Lawrence of My Labia." (EDIT: JK there were only two movies oops lol)

I would also watch it if they hired Janet Mock. Aside from that, watching Samantha navigate a same sex romance was a total trip for teenage me. Because I was a pansexual girl in a very conservative & religious world. I liked all the characters! But I do think Samantha got the short end of stick re: slut shaming from within her social circle and the world at large. In the hands of different writers Samantha could have gone on a journey of self discovery by dealing with her internalised biphobia. Or she could embraced being poly and been happy in a triad. There’s other shows like Broad City and Insecure show womxn exploring friendship & romance & life. But I genuinely think wealthy cis straight white womxn are so used to being the centre of mainstream stories about femininity.... that they’d rather watch SATC then look beyond their pop culture comfort zone.

I watched Sex in the City because it was such a pop culture phenomenon, but that was at least 10 years after it first aired. I thought I was gonna hate it, but it had lots of fun moments and created so many cultural reference points...I almost view it like "The Godfather" movie. The show definitely didn't age that well, so making more of it just seems like a pointless cash grab. At least we get to hear great new critique!
