Added 2019-02-07 01:34:53 +0000 UTCI tried for a sort of out of focus effect on that bottom panel, but that's really hard to do with watercolours. At least, if there's a way to do large scale blurring over a large area in a controlled fashion, I haven't found it yet. Still, I think it more or less gets across the effect I was aiming for, even if it doesn't look quite as nice as I'd hoped!

2019-02-07 03:55:12 +0000 UTCDamn, this is quite the comment. Thanks for all the kind words, man! It's kind of funny, the trick to making it look more like saliva is to actually do less work. A few shiny spots and a few dark lines and it's done. I think I was just over thinking it before, heh. Honestly, the reason I changed the last panel to a tip-lick was just because the horse was a bit shorter than he should have been there, but if it turned out even better because of it, I'll take it. x3 It's so hard to make a smooth blur in watercolours. If you paint wet it just leaks everywhere without any control, if you paint dry you get a super sharp edge. Getting something in between is a massive pain. I'm sure it's possible but right now this is the best I could pull off. The fact that it doesn't outlook right awful is a bit of a win in my book! But yeah, thanks man! Always good to hear you're still diggin' what I'm doing.

The texture you gave the skin under Kyle's paws is so awesome, I just wish you got to do more of it! The colors split up panels #2 and #3 just fine, and they don't meld the horse actor's body together like they did in the lines. I can still see it if I try, but my eyes don't make the connection automatically anymore :) Even though there's literally no background in either of these panels, and intended or not, I LOVE the background shift from fluffy pink to cool blue as the 'perceptive' of the page changes from Kyle/horse to director/cameraman. Yes the sudden camera 180 is less subtle, but I think the color shifting pulls me from one frame to another even more than that. I commented on a piece of yours many months ago, actually it was a page in the deer/Gale comic, about how your saliva had a tendency to look like cum, and to try and get more translucence to it to differentiate the two fluids more. I'm extremely happy to say that you've absolutely NAILED that now, as the big panel shows in obvious glory. Absolutely A+, amazing work there Ru! If that's not obvious progress from even just one project ago, I don't know what is :) And that tip-lick, woof! I thought that Kyle just sitting there not doing anything with his tongue after panels #1 and #2 felt a bit weird but I decided not to point it out and trust that you had a plan there (or even if you didn't have a plan, that you'd see an opening for an improvement!) and I'm glad I did. You changed a semi-odd action into the greatest moment of the page. As for the out of focus effect, it's hard to say exactly what I'm thinking. In one scenario, when I'm looking at the cameraman or director, the effect feels spot on. Kyle and the horse feel out of focus but not dark, I can still see their colors and can really sense the two different 'depths' or 'planes' that compose the panel. On the other hand when I'm looking at Kyle or the horse actor themselves, I can't help but feel something is off. Maybe there's actually too much detail, and instead of seeing the effect as 'out of focus' I just see a less detailed in-focus image, if that makes sense. So for instance if I'm seeing the effect with my peripheral vision, the higher detail is gone because I can't see it without focusing on it, and the effect feels great. But when I focus in on them the detail starts to pop out a bit too much, and sits between 'in focus' and 'out of focus', making the effect feel like it hasn't quite decided what it wants to be. Anyways, for a wing-it first attempt, this is great! Don't take my critique as me saying that it doesn't look good :) It's still fabulous, and if nothing else seeing you put new techniques and theory into a fully colored piece is awesome, since we're getting to watch you progress as an artist!
