Rob Zombie was obliged by Dimension Films ( Miramax) to do this sequel but he never had any plans when he was making his first Remake. His vision was constantly & heavily reworked by the producers which explains the editing, writing and the different cuts. He decided to end all the characters to stop further sequels from happening at least from his own timeline due the exhausting experience he suffered while making both movies. However in the reshoots (depending on the cut) Laurie was left alive and institutionalized just in case the studio made another sequel without him that would've followed Laurie going mad and start her own killing spring alongside a resurrected Michael. The plan was for it to come in 2013, and be called Halloween 3D. Do y'all think that canceled movie would've been interesting or it was better left off to restart the franchise with Halloween 2018?

Halloween II 2009. The whole subplot of Michael and Laurie being siblings was introduced in the original Halloween 2 (1981) on a drunken case of writer's block as writer John Carpenter didn't knew how to properly explain why Michael was after Laurie in the original Halloween from 1978. He always regretted that plot point as Laurie was only supposed to get stalked by Michael just because she was in the wrong place at the wrong time (when she dropped the keys off the Myers house). Pure random stalker motivation which is scarier as it can happen to anyone. All the sequels and this remakes retained that sibling plot point because Halloween 2 was still written by John Carpenter and that movie took place in the same night (hospital). Halloween 2018 (and the rest of the new trilogy) ignores ALL the sequels except the first 1978 original. Making Laurie Strode unrelated to Michael whatsoever as that story beat DOESN'T exist at all in the original first movie. Do y'all think the franchise wrote itself in a corner for many years by making Michael mainly kill after family members and it would've been scarier if we had more movies of Michael going after random people & new characters since the beginning instead? P.S: BTW Yall should check out the short comic "Halloween: The first death of Laurie Strode " as its a brief storyline that narrates the events that lead to Laurie faking her death in Halloween H20 after she survived the hospital events from Halloween 2.
