Supernatural 14x13 - WATCH ALONG!!

Comments

I love this episode despite its flaws. I think you guys make some good points about the stuff with the kids being pared down a bit, and some emotional beats hitting harder. But, the first time I watched this episode, the Sam and John scene killed me. For like 13 years (give or take extra years that happened off screen), Sam has had to live with his last interaction with his dad alive being a fight they had. Then finding him dead. I enjoyed the John and Dean scene too, but it’s a bit or a rehash of what John has said to Dean before. I think something we sadly need to remember in these later seasons is that the writers and showrunner who are left are, in most cases, just are not as good/focused as the ones who came before. Looking at this episode within its section, Seasons 12-15, I think it’s one of the best. But it does make me wonder what this episode could have been if it had Kripke or Gamble at the helm. Questions: How well do you guys think this episode compares to others in Seasons 13 and 14 (so far)? If you could choose, is there somewhere else in the series that you would have preferred to have an episode like this, bringing John back for a limited time? Where it could have had interesting thematic meaning or been more impactful for Sam and Dean? And does it bother you that they didn’t try make JDM look younger in that last scene where he’s waking up in 2003?

The original plan for the 300th episode was about how the people in the town viewed the Winchesters. A lot of that went by the wayside, but part of it survived in the 3 kids storyline. Instead they managed to get JDM back despite his management not passing on that the show wanted him back. Apparently they had tried several times and it only happened here because they asked Jensen to reach out to him (they’re really good friends and Jensen actually officiated JDM’s wedding ceremony.)

Odd! Did do some tinkering in the description after posting, so you may have gotten another notification ping or something. It was scheduled as a Supernatural Saturday 🤔 I'll keep an eye on the next couple to see if I can spot anything from the schedule / post process on our side.

also techincal question: I see the timestamp of this reaction is "2 days ago" but I only got the notification today and I really don't remember seing this on the wall in the past two days, is it just me or did something bug out?
