I love that analysis on The Messenger. They took a fundamentally "side" character and made him the main character. The Messenger is only a necessary character if there is a message. We could say The Message is the ensemble of characters in this story that support The Messenger. We may be used to The Message being the main story, but the writers decided to highlight that The Messenger (the storyteller) are just as important as the message itself. The audience couldn't wrap their minds around the idea that the main character of the story is the one who is passing on the story, not what the story is really about. But they made his story so rich and full of depth, but truly his character is only possible within an ensemble creating The Message, which is beautiful.
