I have incredibly mixed feelings about Part 2 (the first game is my favorite piece of art/entertainment ever made). I have never had an issue with Joel being killed by Abby, but the game struggles at times to replace Joel and Ellie's dynamic with dynamics that are as compelling (Ellie and Dina come very close and are the best part of the game). What I will say though is this. I think the TV series has a better chance because it can focus on perspectives other than Ellie and Abby's. It can follow Tommy for instance (who does a lot in the game but so much is offscreen).

2025-05-01 10:07:24 +0000 UTCThe issue with Abby (even more in the show than in the game because boy does Katlin play her as a sociopath) is that she inherently is not a good person when we meet her. She manipulates her friends, she kills Joel not only despite him saving her but she also takes perverse pleasure in it which is super creepy and awful. Her wanting to kill Joel is fair enough, but the way she goes about it in the show and partly in the game, makes it near impossible to root or relate to her.

2025-05-01 10:01:37 +0000 UTCI was so proud of myself - I didn’t cry when it happened (I cry big at EVERYTHING so this was huge for me!) I think I was in shock. But then John cried and I cried at how sad he was.
