This was an awesome 3rd Entry in Alex Garland's unofficial "Apocalypse Trilogy" of films now completed: 2014 Ex Machina (the dangers of AI) 2018 Annihilation (the dangers of Global Warming) 2024 Civil War (the dangers the U.S. and all other Democracies & Allies since WW2 world wide face with the rise of Authoritarian/Fascist Regimes Post 9/11, that have been hyper drived in the 2010's via Billionaire Bond Villians, un-regulated Social Media/Youtube to form diseases like the 'Rump Regime/MAGA Cult and a 24/7/365 Disinfo feed ala 1930's Germany but sans cellphones). Garland's Civil War was in my Top 10 of 2024, and yes was the most expensive A24 Film to date. Great performances by Dunst, Wagner, Spaeny, the dude from Dune Part 1 & Garlands FX series "Devs" and a SCARY AFJesse Plemons!! A very important film that in interviews Garland said he was very upfront with what Nick Offerman's POTUS is: the First American Dictator. So critics & audiences last April saying this film was not "specific" enough of the scenario didn't make sense (source: The Big Picture Podcast interview with host Sean Fennesy April 2024)... Plus with the current Anti-Constitutional 'Rump & Musk & the MAGA sycophants in Congress, not stopping the all time UNPOPULAR WORST (blatant 'Rump Admin Created Project 2025 to a tee actions) First 100 Days in office for any POTUS EVER. Our countries Rule of Law & Due Process, Attacks on Women & LGBTQ+ both Private Citizens and Fed. Civil Servants/Military, FDA, FAA, CDC, NIH, USAID, US Treasury, Dept. Of Education, now this latest unfit dangerous hire: the U.S. Foreign & Domestic Anti-Terrorism Dept. is being led by a 22 year old recent college grad whose Indeed job history is mowing lawns, but he follows ALL the MAGA Rallies & Truth Social crap the last 4 years so he was hired by the Idiocracy POTUS to run Anti-Terror Dept. of course), while also destroying relations with our FORMER ALLIES since WW2... *OH wow, and as I type this, Con-Felon 'Rump just called for 2000 National Guard to be deployed to OUR HOME of Los Angeles (better stop this shit Gov. Newsom) to harass the 1st Amendment & Rights to Assembly of Los Angelenos PROTESTING these bullshit 'Rump/Kristi Nome/Tom Homan ICE Gestapo ILLEGALLY kidnapping of Americans the last 4 months to STRIKE FEAR in all of us who have been protesting every one of his Illegal & Unconstitutional Executive Orders since Feb 2025. He needs to fufill his Profit Prisons scheme (which was STOPPED via Biden Harris in 2021 Legislation) with prisoner quotas both here in the U.S. and abroad via fellow Authoritarian Bukele's Profit Prisons in South America (El Salvador I think?). While "Civil War" is a different warning of a film, I find inspiration in the recent Daredevil:Born Again, the excellent ANDOR Seasons 1 & 2, and both of the Doctor Who Ncuti seasons for MEETING THIS MOMENT against straight up tyranny we haven't faced this hard in the U.S. since McCarthyism (which George Clooney just warned us is back in the form of Trumpism via the live CNN broadcast from Broadway tonight with "Goodnight and Good Luck"). We will keep Opposing you/your Regime donOLD, ALL SUMMER FALL and WINTER...especially June 14th, your B-Day where OUR 50million plus taxdollars will go to REAL WASTE FRAUD ABUSE to having your Putin/Kim-Jun style military Authoritarian "parade", that will be met with over 2000 Protests in D.C. and Nationwide via 50501, Indivisible, MoveOn pro-democracy organized events that weekend. 86-47 ๐ฎ Man off the menu and into Fed. Prison where he belongs.

2025-06-08 05:37:51 +0000 UTCAs a desert storm vet, this movie was daunting for me to consider watching. There are a few movies that capture the rapid swings from boredom to beauty to terror. This is one of those films. Gorgeous and terrifying in turns with an undercurrent of toxic ambition. It was reminiscent of Nightcrawler with Jake Gyllenhall. I am grateful that John and Greg were there with me for this exploration into an all too possible reality for this battered vet. Thank you for your insight and comfort.

2025-04-09 02:05:38 +0000 UTCSo glad y'all reacted to this one and totally got it, in my opinion. So many others get hung up on details that don't really matter. The story and message are what matter, IMO. I first saw this one in theaters and the sound mix was crazy. The gunfire was overwhelming.
