Bram Stoker's DRACULA (1992) - Movie WATCH ALONG!!

Comments

You two should really watch 'A Discovery of Witches' together, starring Matthew Goode and Teresa Palmer. I think you would really enjoy it.

You should also checkout Mary Shelley’s Frankenstein as well. Great cast Kenneth Brannaugh as Frankenstein, Robert De Niro as Frankenstein’s Monster, Helena Bonham Carter, Tom Hulce, Adian Quinn, Ian Holn, and John Cleese. Also, directed by Kenneth Branagh, as well.

Cody Price

I love that the effects are mostly captured in camera.

I literally thought that was Johnny Depp in the thumbnail!

The costuming in this movie is incredible and still holds up. I love that you guys were getting sucked in. Such a mesmerizing film.

I was so happy to see John and Roxy reacting to this. I’m so surprised that John hadn’t seen it, given his love for Nosferatu and vampires in general. This one is my fave movie adaptation, it’s one of the closest adaptions of the book in my opinion. It’s my favourite book of all time, I even have it on CD audiobook read by Brian Cox - abridged unfortunately because four hours of Brian Cox as Van Helsing is not enough. The madness of Renfield inspired half of my handle. A lot of the dialogue is lifted right out of the book, that’s why the writing is so good. In the book, Dracula controls the ‘creatures of the night’ so wolves, rats, spiders and bats, and he can transform into either wolf- or bat-like ‘monsters’. I think it’s one of Gary Oldman’s best roles, Anthony Hopkins kills it as Van Helsing, and Cary Elwes, Richard E Grant and Billy Campbell are great as Lucy’s suitors. I think every actor showed up, even Keanu. I think his accent is weird, but at least he tried (unlike a certain Robin Hood actor). It was one of his earliest roles and I think he did a great job as Jonathan Harker. They added in the entire Elisabeta storyline, and in turn her reincarnation as Mina, and therefore Dracula and Mina’s romance - there’s actually very little romance in the book. And they made Lucy a LOT more promiscuous in the movie than the book, but it still holds up as one of the best adaptations I’ve ever seen.

I never realized how much Oldman looks like Jonny Depp in this movie when Dracula is in his 1800s European prince form.
