Both are there, just the chain of events that kicked off their meeting with Harry is no longer there. Ron didn't meet him before the train, so he didn't look for the lonely, lost boy who might or might not have been famous and found himself a compartment anyway. And Harry was not even alone; Diana was already there in his compartment, so Ron simply picked a random one with kids his age and room to spare. I mentioned it softly, but another difference is that Neville has an owl instead of a toad, so Hermione didn't go around looking for it throughout the whole train.

Malfoy does not help his own case either; he's an annoying little shit. From all we see so far, Juno is perfectly willing to be polite to everyone, Draco being the sole exception.

Voldemort goal was to manipulate Harrys mind and teaching him how to defend himself was going directly against this. However I can see how the MC can't see this. A Hufflepuff Harry fic? Now I have seen everything.
