You guys are probably the first reactors I've seen that have any sympathy for Jeff Daniels' character. I don't think most people understand the absolute clusterfuck it would be to send the crew back and risk losing all the astronauts for a small chance to save one astronaut. We're emotionally invested, but he's supposed to make the rational decision, not the emotional one.

2025-04-23 11:33:25 +0000 UTCMars was the Jordanian desert. Pathfinder is real too. It was sent in the 90's, just a lander it would be well buried in sand by the near future year the film takes place.
