This is the conversation I have with myself every morning

ComicTF

It's for moments like this that I fall in love with Val's style all over again. It doesn't actually matter if the necklace comes up again because it's already done its job; fleshing out the characters and world just that much more. But it *could* Any of these moments could. It's a veritable spiderweb, an IKEA pizzle of a comic. Anything could be important becayse everything is

Flora P-Stylianides

Weheheh! Time to rectify that mistake!

Flora P-Stylianides

An early feild guide stated the ratio was roughly seven to one

John C Butler

Well, it's possible I've over thought all this. But the tidbit about how older generations developed seemed important. And maybe it is fifty or sixty, but the sheer number of individual Yinglets wandering around Val Salia and the Enclave made me feel like there were a couple of hundred is all.

John C Butler

Ah, I see you've put a lot of thought into it! I didn't have a sense there were several hundred members. I would have guessed fifty or sixty adults. Maybe there was a big shot at some point I've forgotten?

Thorin N. Tatge

I'm not sure this necklace needs to come up again... we've seen oneshot strips and brief arcs showcasing the other females and patriarchs in the enclave that don't seem to serve any purpose other than developing characters, being amusing, and maybe building the world a little more. I suspect this is just another of those.

Thorin N. Tatge

But males are naturally born more often. Do we know what the ratio is?

Thorin N. Tatge

Since we're speculating, I'd think Kass would still be genetically compatible with "new" Yinglets. Ran speculated that Younglets we're originally born without shell teeth and grew until they split out of their egg shell. They would be closer physically to a modern one month old Younglet and would probably nurse for several weeks. Female Yinglets have two breasts, which suggest that they originally laid one or two eggs per mating and spent a considerable amount of time and resources raising their children. The Enclave system maximizes the number of eggs, and therefore Younglets, a single female can produce, but it also means individuals don't receive close personal attention unless they are a rare female. Again, pure speculation, but I wonder if Kass does eventually breed and produces an "old style" offspring what effect it would have on the Val Salia Enclave and Yinglet society as a whole. Edit: Canines may not evolve quite as quickly as Yinglets, but for a real world example of different closely related species interbreeding, consider the Coywolf. When Eastern Canadian Wolves became scarce, they began breeding with Coyotes and the occasional domestic dog. The end result, the Coywolf, also known as the Eastern Coyote, bred true and began spreading up and down the Eastern seaboard and are now as far South as the Carolinas. Coywolves are about half the size of a Canadian Timber wolf, are intelligent and adaptable and can hunt equally well individually, in small groups or in large packs. And this is a species that literally didn't exist until about 15 years ago. I'm sort of imagining Kass as the possible key to hybridized "old" and "new" Yinglet that might be better than either. And maybe when Narklet called losing the Zhat Zhing a disaster, this is what he meant. He knows full well what Kass is, because he knows what Zhat Zhing does, and there is a genetic baseline female Yinglet running around outside the Elders control.

John C Butler

If Kass is a baseline yinglet that means a reproductive system that may no longer be compatible with modern yinglets...remember, their whole reproductive structure has been altered to fit the society envisioned by their great founder figure. For one thing, I suspect a baseline yinglet female's offspring would be difficult to feed, since they went from nursing their young to starting on solid food from day one via selective breeding. Basically, modern yinglets can't really be considered the same species as the "baseline" anymore given how rapidly they evolve.

Matthias Preissl

Heh, true!

Southpaw

A lot went down in Vizlet's day!

Val Salia

Just be gentle!

Val Salia

The least screentime... SO FAR

Val Salia

Who knows!!! : D

Val Salia

The thing that yinglets are best known for

Val Salia

It's been a while!

Val Salia

Green's just a nice color.

Val Salia

Well there's Kass! The "yinglet" """girl"""

Val Salia

Ah, so we have seen them before! Neat. Thanks for pointing that out!

Lurk

I think it's a certainty that her friend was transferred by the liaison. Given the number of females actively breeding, there should be more females. So a LOT of females are being transferred out of the Enclave.

John C Butler

After the last Field Guide, I realized the Elders must be pulling a LOT of females from the Val Salian Enclave. Females are rare, but the Enclave looks to have several hundred members and only six breeding females (Kass in not currently one of them). Given that each female is producing several clutches of six to eight eggs per year and females occur roughly in one of seven births, there should be a lot more females. The implication here is Feeeena's freind was at least a young adult when she was transferred to another Enclave. Makes me wonder how often young females are being transferred out of Val Salia. I'm also wondering if the Elders will try and lay claim to Kass once they become aware of her. I still believe the Zhat Zhing set her to the original Yinglet genetic base line, which would be something the Elders would want access to.

John C Butler

Now I want to give her a hug, which would probably end up crushing her :/.

Matthias Preissl

They're Feeeena -yes, all those Es are entirely required- the fashionista (last seen during Kass' makeover ambush IIRC) and Vesaria, the extremely cheerful one last seen touring the main hall.

Matthias Preissl

Oh oh! Feeeena! Za yinglady wizh zhe least screentime. Curious zhat it is spent on a Chekhov's Clam XD

Flora P-Stylianides

I was wondering if the mysterious Feeeena was going to get a showcase strip! Does she literally have two left hands? Something did look odd about her arms in panel 3. What a funny defect! These yinglets, I tell you. I wonder if the yinglady who isn't here anymore was forced to leave by the enclave liaisons.

Thorin N. Tatge

And now it’s time for something sad.🥲

Super Shanko

We haven’t seen Fernando in a while, but we saw Veseria a little while ago.

Super Shanko

Oooh! Who are these cuties? I don't remember seeing them before. Well I'm interested to see where this is going!

Lurk

The necklace... kinda looks like a cut and polished 'zhat zhing' hmmmmmm.

Fox Starwing

"two left hands, it is Feeeena" - My kind of girl. Is this the first time we've seen a yinglet girl in undies? Cute.
